Look at the video in the previous post, if you notice, both headlight beams move but only the vehicle on the left has VLD enabled, the beam spreads apart. If I am mistaken, please share your findings. |

You don't have it active then; I don't know if it's a Canada market-spec issue or maybe just coding but you could check you VIN and see what options you have from the factory. Look at the pic below, I highlighted what needs to be listed to be able to recode VLD.

when i did it on my f23, bimmercode showed f020 values twice, but no f030 values. any idea what that means? i’ll drop a note to the bimmercode guy ...

That's find; you just a have older software. It's not a problem as long as you have VLA listed on the order sheet, as I previously mentioned, it will work, just check both f020 values.

I am not sure if the coding is different for LEDs, I have Xenon adaptive. Like I said, check your order sheet and see if it list 'decoding for VLD.' Do you have adaptive headlights? Last edited by Poochie; 03-23-2018 at 09:37 PM.. |

Anyone trying to code VLD, if you didn't opt for the "adaptive" feature; you're lacking the proper hardware for this to function.
You'll find the coding and all the values will show up but It will just not function. I was confused why it wasn't working for some people but I just realized from the parts list, both Xenon and LEDs have the option for "adaptive." Some people don't have the adaptive feature and just have not realize it. Last edited by Poochie; 03-23-2018 at 09:52 PM.. |

I have, among other things:
S552A Adaptive LED headlight S563A Light package S5ACA High-beam assistant and also S8S4A Decoding, variable light distribution It has the A button and the auto-dimming feature. Does that mean VLD will work, or will not? Thanks! |

Yes, you have all the right ingredients for it work. You'll notice if its working or not; it's very noticeable with just Xenons, I could only imagine how amazing it will look with LEDs! Code it and go for a ride on a dark road, you'll definitely know if its functioning.

Sounds good. A bit concerned about just one line of coding being enabled but we'll see what we see. Now to decide why I need to go out in the dark
Thanks! |

I understand your concern, I believe that first line discrepancy was just a software change. At first, I believed coding was only for genius or the dealer but it's really that simple, a chimp can do it. I must of coded like 20 different features since then. I never heard of anyone bricking their ECU by coding and everything is reversible. But you can contact Bimmercode to confirm this. For instance, two hours ago, I coded my rear reverse camera to be able to stay on while driving, then the camera stop functioning. I stopped by the side of road and reverted back the original backup and it worked again. More research, I found the correct parameters. Works fine now. Long story longer, it's all reversible.. PM if you run into any issues, I'll assist. Best of luck! Last edited by Poochie; 03-23-2018 at 10:44 PM.. |

Thanks linus. yes, Kalyan, I did the things I remembered having done in that module. I suppose one should keep notes on each session or something ...

But when I access C_AFS_ENA I am unable to select both of the "enable" lines. When I select one, it deselects the other. If I choose one, back out to the previous menu, and then go back in and choose the other, again only one gets highlighted. Do I need to back all the way out and code each one separately? When I check LUT_FLC_FORWARDLIGHTING_Y, I do not see the options referenced. I'm not sure what to pick here. Here is what I'm seeing in both cases. Can anyone help here? Thanks! I saw the same options you did when doing the Bimmercode VLD change. In C_AFS_ENA I changed the F030 from disable to enable. Then I went to LUT_FLC_FORWARDLIGHTING_Y and enabled the button with F030 on it. When I restarted the car after coding, the headlights did move up and down a little, so I think that it is working.

I see coding options for the 7 series that I know for a fact the f22 can't support but it's there. So nothing to be alarmed about. |

Ah, thanks so much! It never crossed my mind that those options were referring to the model designations of the vehicles themselves (I'll blame the extra zeroes for throwing me). That makes so much more sense!

Variable Light Distribution has several different modes of operation (for Low Beam): 1 - City Light: Shallow and Very Wide Beam Pattern active from 0 - 50kph (30MPH) (Both Headlamps are Panned outwards 12 horizontal from center and 0.7 lowered vertically) 2 - Standard Light: Same Basic Beam Pattern as with 8S4 Enabled and Headlamp Switch Set to Auto. Active from 50 - 110kph (30MPH - 68MPH) 3 - Guiding Fog Light - Shallow and Wider Beam Pattern Enabled with the Front Fog Lamps On and Headlamp Switch in Auto and Speed 0 - 110kph (Both headlamps are panned outwards 8 horizontal from center and lowered 0.7 vertically) 4 - Highway Light - Long Throw Pattern illuminating approx. 25% further than Standard Light. Active from 110 to 250kph (68MPH- 155MHP). (Driver's Side Headlamp is panned 3.5 outwards Horizontal from center and lowered 0.25 vertically, while the passenger side headlamp is raised 0.2 vertical) Above is a break down of at what speed the VLD activates each pattern, to change for which Number No. 4 > Highway Lights activates to 50mph: *Expert Mode* FEM> 3073 > C_AFS_E_V_LO > Custom (0X50) The default is "6E" which equals = 110KLM or 68MPH. Coding "50" lowers the speed activation to 80KLM or 49.7MPH. Which I find more suitable. But you could chose a different speed based on the HEX conversion. |
