Center Jack Points

I Found the jack point for the front center. And I see it is mentioned to use the differential to raise the rear. Are these both considered safe still? Not sure if it matters, my differential is LSD. I would think their housings would be very similar.

It would be helpful to get the two wheels up at the same time. And then use ramps and or jack stands.

The centre jacking points are safe if used correctly - wheels on other axle chocked and lift on the diff in front of the rear cover, ensure that the jack doesn't touch the cover at all.

This. I have used the center jack points when swapping my summer/winter wheels and bang out one axle at a time. Don't jack using the differential rear cover or the flange.

But, I find that it's not necessarily the most convenient way to jack up the car. The front end is so low that I have to drive up on 2x's to get my jack to the front center point, and both the front and rear jack points are so far in that I have to use very short strokes of the jack handle to get the car off the ground. Jacking the car up one corner at a time to swap wheels is pretty much as fast as jacking it up and changing a full axle.

This is why I ended up going to a shop able to provide me with center jacking points on each side of the car. This modification isn't for everyone, I don't suppose, but I am ever so glad I had it done. It takes just a few minutes now to put the car up on four jack stands.

Nice mod. I have to add 30 mins to any project just to get the car up on 4 stands.

Thanks to all who replied. I’m still having trouble visualizing the exact jack point “in front of the diff”.

I know what you mean by “low”. I have the carbon fibre lip.

Although this is for the 1M, it has the same position and restrictions as the 2-series and most BMWs on central jacking point use: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...44&postcount=1

For tire changing I find that I can lift both front and back wheels clear with the jacking point behind the front wheel. Speeds things up.
