Hate the tailpipes. Not made in Germany. DME has not been unlocked yet.

Nope.

I've got $60K+ into my M240i and plan to keep the car until it wears out or I wear out.

I won't get tired of it, that's for sure. I buy cars I really like and modify them to suit me. I tend to keep them for 10+ years.

The Hoff kink & proportions look just right. I think if you put an exhaust with round tips it will look terrific! Much, much better than the 4.

And that color looks great to me! Really hoping we get more colorful options on it.

Any word on pricing? I'm hunting for a used m240i right now but the used market is so inflated they can run right up to what a new one would have cost to order a few months ago.

No convertible G42 = NO for me.

I’ll find a used BMW convertible. BMW has priced themselves out of the market for a new convertible with 6 cylinders, IMHO.

I think that by the time my 2016 M235i Convertible has run its course, electric competiton will be a serious threat. It will only take someone to produce a well-priced, Lotus-like, 2-door, 4-seater with 3rd Gen batteries and suddenly a petrol 2 with all that weight of engine, gearbox and drivetrain will seem antiquated and simply too heavy by comparison.

Ditto on the electric. Ford and VW have both recently come out with well-received smallish SUVs that were designed as electric from the ground up. The BMW iX3 will soon be available, though it is an adaptation of the existing X3. BMW has not announced an electric 2-series and, given that the new G-series is not yet released, it is likely that any near-future model will be based on that and not designed as an electric from the start.
Of course, the inveterate modders will pull their hair out, because there will be no powertrain fiddles to be had, but for those of us who like our cars straight up, the next decade will be an exciting time.

EVs are cool but not as much as you think

I would be very hesitant on the electric front. Despite good progress most EVs are both heavy and expensive. I love EVs for what they are, I even took a vacation day to wait outside a Tesla dealership to place a pre-order for a Model 3, but the amount of weight that is inherent in the powertrain (no matter how low you mount it) is something that N-gen batteries will take untold years to overcome. I have been hearing pipe dreams about new battery technologies since I was in undergrad over a decade ago and the lithium batteries I used in my hobbies back them are nearly identical to the ones powering EVs today. Until you get close to the energy density of gas with batteries you will not be able to create anything that has the handling characteristics of what most of us deem a sports car. For reference the high side of a Li-ion battery's energy density is 200 Wh/kg, gas has about 12500 Wh/kg. Even assuming 40% thermal efficiency in the B58 we are still able extract 5000 Wh/kg on gas.

There are light EVs in our future then?

I agree... There are a few things I am not sure about. But I am pleasantly surprised at the looks overall. I do hope they offer that color....

At one point there was talk about a roundel being placed on the C pillar, similar to the X2. I'm not seeing that here.

Is BMW putting the "M" emblem on the fender again?

AFAIK, they never completely stopped doing that. That side M badge was only factory-deleted for certain markets (e.g., the U.S.).

They certainly have a GT86 feel to them, but I think the final front-end without camo and in a darker color would make them look better.

Correct, go to BMW.ca and build an M240i and the little M badge is there.

Manual

Where is the source on "no manual" for the G42?

Both of the BMW dealers in my area assured that a 6 speed manual would be available in the G42. I dont know what to believe anymore.

The only information I have seen supporting the removal of the manual is that its not in the 3 series. I mean the 3 series is a completely different car so not sure why that would be any indication

Its highly unlikely a MT RWD G42 will be offered in the US. The M440i is AT across the board and I'd be very surprised if they deviated from that path forward. You'll need to get M2, M3 or M4 for a RWD MT BMW.

I'm interested in a few things but I'm undecided as of yet. I really love my F22, I've missed it to an extent that it feels like its uniquely mine, and it'll take something special to get me to replace it.

1) What will it actually look like? So far, I like the looks of the F22 better.
2) Will it have the M Variable LSD from the factory? I'm planning on a Wavetrac for the F22 later this year, and it's probably the car's single biggest weakness.
3) Can it fit wide tires? I'm on 255 square now, and I still feel like I want more.
4) How is the steering feel? So far the general consensus is the GXX have better feedback than the FXX chassis but we'll wait and see if that holds true here as well.
5) Will the Mexico plant be capable of accommodating Individual color options?
6) What will it cost? The GXX 3/4 had a lot of price creep. My Base + THP F22 was surprisingly affordable, and soon to be paid in full.
