Hey guys,

Took my 2015 m235xi in for and oil change today. The mechanic pointed out that my emergency parking brake cables were dangling because the clip that holds them was broken and the cables over time may hit the driveshaft. He was able to show me while my car was on the lift. The unfortunate thing is he stated this is a 400 dollar repair since the gas tank and driveshaft are removed to install the 7 dollar plastic clips lol.

He stated this isn't an uncommon issue.. ofcourse in my mind I'm thinking, I'll just secure them with tape or somthing? What are your reccomendations? Seems like if this is a cheap plastic part there is an aftermarket option or solution to avoid such a costly repair? See attached photos.

I have the same issue. Independent shop wanted $450 to fix it. Dealership said it was gonna be $1k. How this isn't a TSB or some other issue honored issue is beyond me. since it's a common failure point and I'm less than 35k miles.

It's a BMW. Most (all?) models have glitches like this. BMW cuts corners where it can. It's my take that 2nd and 3rd owners are the ones who generally have to deal with them.

I've had experiences similar to yours going back to the late 70s, but I won't bore you with them. Some of those cost significant money (e.g., $2K in 1982).
