Hello, I have changed the front brake pads to the car without changing the wear sensor and it does not let me reset the service, it does not let me either from the hidden menu of the instrument panel, nor with the INSTA-D.
Does anyone know how to reset it without having to change the wear sensor?

If the wear sensor triggered to indicate the pad change is needed, then either a new sensor or possibly a hack to short the sensor wires together is the only thing that is going to work. The sensors are cheap, so it sounds like the best way to go.

If the warning was triggered then you'll need new sensors

The warning has not been activated, it only appears that there are 340km to go for service in yellow.
I changed the pads thinking that if the sensor was not activated I would not have to change it and now it does not let me reset the service, as I have read, it is because it lets you reset it if a new sensor is not mounted ...

But how does the car know that the sensor is new or old ... I don't understand

If the car already gave you an estimate of X amount of life left then the wear sensor has been triggered.

Its like $12..just order a new one and get it over with.

I was considering that at a suggestion from a friend who did the same thing.

Mine is a little weird, I just bought used from a bmw about 2-3 weeks ago, it was showing 3100 miles to go on the brakes. Fast forward 1500 miles to now and it is still showing 3100 miles to go.

At what point in the sensor do you guys usually change the brake pad?

The 3,100 miles correlates to 5,000km, the default calculated distance remaining for the pads until the pad sensor kicks in to give the accurate remaining distance. The calculation is not really that good until the sensor provides a reading.

I haven't looked into any of this. Is there a readout somewhere that defaults to 5km and then later offers a more accurate estimate of the remaining pad life?

If so, is it a better or more effective way to go than just reviewing the pads visually and then measuring them if/when you want or need the specific remaining thickness?

After a reset it starts out at a value up around 40,000km or so (I haven’t checked the exact value on the F22), then seems to decrease faster than expected and hits 5,000km and stays there until the pad sensor starts wearing away when about 26% of the pad is left. I don’t think the parameters for the estimated life from a new pad to the sensor triggering are particularly accurate, based on my car and a couple of others I know about.
