TPMS on 230i xdrive
Hi everyone,
We just got a 2020 230i xdrive to replace my wife's 128i. When we changed the wheels and tires to winter tires, the car tried to reset the TPMS and failed at 49%. Now it displays TPMS failure. Do Canadian 2 series have TPMS? My e92 M3 doesn't have it (where the US model had it) so was wondering if things have changed? Also if the Canadian 2 series have TPMS, did you guys buy new sensors, or didn't care about the warning for the winter months? Thanks.

My 2016 M235i does NOT have TPMS and is monitored based on rotation of the wheels. I have successfully installed a set of winter tires on rims & was able to still keep them monitored based on rotations. No calibration needed. Hope this info helps!

Well I guess that's an additional price you will now have to pay in order to monitor your tires with winter rubber on. I imagine it would be somewhere around $500-800 for a set of them?

Whether or not the car was equipped from factory with run flats determines if it has TPMS. Anyone who opted for the MPSS tires has FTM. You can get a set of OE or aftermarket TPMS for a couple hundred, you just have to research the right type/frequency, the dealer will soak you for a lot more than they are worth from elsewhere.

I think the answer relates to Canada, not the US, as this is the Canadian sub-forum. Canada had only FTM on most cars until a couple of years ago, now it is split between FTM and TPMS.

Thanks for setting me straight, did not realize this market was that much different on options.

I don’t think the F22 in Canada went to TPMS (unless in the 2020/21 model years) but it looks like Gxx vehicles have TPMS. I don’t think there is any Canadian BMW currently on sale without TPMS now.
