OT - 2016 A45 AMG 0-100 in 4.2s!
Put your flamethrowers away, this isn't like a tune vs tune thread but some good old fashioned comparison.
http://www.drive.com.au/new-car-revi...13-gjlhvz.html This is a lot of car for the money! I strongly suspect the M2 will be at least $20k dearer given this is the pricing the M235i/M240i sits at, and with similar levels of performance BMW are going to have their work cut out for them in this segment. Even more so given the non S-spec engine in the M2 (a tuned N55). It's hard to compare the A45 to the M2 when the latter isn't even out yet, however it's certainly hitting the mark in the bang for buck stakes. I'm still not a fan of the Benz's interior though |

This should be compared to the M135i not the M235i, let alone the M2. The CLA45 would be a bit more relevant.
But I would never pay that much for a hatch TBH.

That is stonkingly quick. But the car does nothing for me. dont like the styling - too much bling (that rear wing thing wtf??), and just not into 4wd. Yeah I get 4wd can be quicker but it just does nothing for me.
What kind of lap times do they do, SMP or WP? The styling always strikes me as a rich boy's BRZ/86. |

It's just the price difference for the performance, better dynamics included... but I guess that's the market for you! |

The M2 will most likely be a better drivers car, regardless of the 0-100 times I would still take the M2 over the merc

Is it just me or is the Merc more about the bling, whereas the Beemer is more about getting the job done.
But then I have never been a Merc guy .......although you gotta love the SLS - in GT race form they are just a magic thing to hear/watch |

You really notice the lengths BMW goes to orient the functions of the car around the driver as soon as you get in something else. I tested a Jag XE the other week and this stood out for me. XE was a good car, but it's not up to par with BMW in my (one-eyed) view on tech and interior design. |

While I'm sure as far as driving experience goes the M2 would be the enthusiast choice. BMW really need to pull their head in and start adding some value if the M2 is to be priced 20-30k more than cars like this. Non bespoke engine, no CF roof and base 2 series seats with blue stitching just won't cut it for me. I need to see the value if replacing my E46 M3 which does everything as far as driving pleasure with the addition of soul and character, something becoming long lost in modern cars.
Let's hope it's priced at or under 100k but understand that's wishful because of the m235i but this just highlights how overpriced they are to begin with. Look at what they did with the m3, came down 20k in price! I say drop the m235i to 75k then slot the M2 in at 90k |

$100K......plus, plus, plus to get decent options. I think it'll be $115K minimum for most buyers.

$115k minimum is what I'm thinking too. But really, that isn't so bad when you consider that a RS3 with some "required" options (RS performance pack, exterior pack, sunroof) is some $103k or so because discounts are hard to come by. So for those who think that RS3 is $79k, think again. A45 may be a different story because they are going to be the hardest to sell out of the 3 cars I would imagine.

A45's and those taco shell CLA 45's doing 4.2 secs is great but they still get crapped on at the track, like really badly crapped on

I think we all agree on $99k. As for $110k, sure if there hasn't an option on the car. But I have a feeling $99k isn't going to be DCT so to start with you have a $5k option already if you take that into account. And $110k would be a discounted price too because on road costs (including the massive dealer delivery charges these days) will take it to more like $115k.

I tested a CLA45 yesterday and the straight line acceleration was impressive but out of corners there isn't anywhere near the shove in the pants that my 135i gives. And way too much understeer.

Given its not going to be as limited as the 1M with it having a production run of 3-4 years do you think it's still achievable to receive discount? I know the dealers will play the limited hard to get card but really it comes down to the demand and what we want to pay for the car I think. I've got my deposit down at 2 dealerships so will be playing them off as much as I can but it's going to be hard.
Because I've been waiting for years for this M2 there is no way I could wait any longer. Ideally I'm one who usually waits for lci and any bugs to be ironed out. M3 is classic example of drop in price and included features as part of lci. |

Aside from the fact I am disappointed in the lack of individual options, the price gap between the old M3 to a 1M was circa $50,000 and now it's potentially only $20-30k. If you are ok with the size variance and can afford a few more $ per month the bigger car seems ATM to me to be the smarter car........ Now how much was azure black with Sakhir interior again........... |
