Anyone install 5 1/4" Speakers in the Doors?

Hey there, Noob here proud to be now driving a F22 AW 6spd RWD ! Wondering if anybody has installed 5 1/4" speakers in the doors. Aside from a mounting spacer/bracket, do they fit, and without having to build out the door panel/speaker grill? Thanks.

Won't fit. Speakers on all BMW's are 4 inch. Look at BAVSOUND if you want replacements.

ivegotklas is correct:
- 4" full-range drivers are used in the doors and/or rear deck
- Shallow-mount, 8" inverted-motor woofers are used under the seats for mid-bass and bass (They are not true 'subwoofers' but handle those frequencies.)
- A 3.5" full-range driver is used in the center channel
- For the HK option: 1" metal dome tweeters are used in the sail panels, center channel, and rear, and the full-range drivers become midrange drivers.

To use a 5 1/4" driver anywhere, you will need to cut either stiff plastic or metal and completely revise mounting points. Not worth the effort unless you're building a competition system, IMHO.

Ok, so I'd have to alter the door panel speaker grill as I understand it? I was just trying to get more midrange as obviously a larger woofer would help. Thanks for the advice guys!!

Morel makes a great 4" speaker (Morel Hybrid 402).

Check the Strangelove thread most people go some combo of focal and JL or Bavsound. Not that there aren't good (possibly better) other options but those are the most popular.

No, you're wrong. Your problem with that specific driver size isn't midrange; it's midbass and bass.

Don't sweat the size. Sweat the quality, as well as the frequencies the driver is designed to reproduce. In audio, size doesn't matter nearly as much as people think.

I know the Strangelove thread mentioned above is very long, but it's got all the info you need. More importantly, there are people whose advice on here is well worth following. Viffermike is at the top of that list (even if he's now an interloper around here).
