You can hear the turbo spooling, quite loud might I add, with any aftermarket intake. Down to the $100 ones.
With that said, until we see a before and after dyno, I will take Dinan's advertised claims with a grain of salt.

Wow this is interesting. Is this a common issue with all aftermarket intakes? I'm between the Dinan and AFE intakes and this could be a deciding factor. I definitely don't want to sacrifice engine performance in cold weather! |

By the way, you can check to see if you have this valve by simply unclipping the top of the airbox and remove the filter. Then look down into the bottom left hand side of the airbox (facing the car). If you see this "valve" then you'll have to remove and install the supplied piece from the Dinan kit, if you don't see that valve, then you're clear for all year 'round driving! Also see the Dinan site for the installation PDF. There's a decent image in the installation instructions of what the valve looks like (but you can't miss it if you take the filter out). Dave

I did a little digging into these intake box snow valves...from what I gathered they are there to keep light dry snow from getting/sticking on the intake filter, freezing and then eventually melting into water and degrading the filter over the long term. When you plug this valve and drive in a blizzard or very snowy day (hence the extreme weather conditions part) you may end up getting snow on the filter and thus degrading some performance.
This is my understanding, but easy solution would be to examine filter if you just drove in a snow storm and if it's covered in snow, shake it off. I live in Chicago and will maybe drive in 2-3 snow storms in a season and will be using this procedure once I get my intake.

I'd bet it'll be less than that. IMO I think Dinan would prefer to under promise and over deliver. At least you'll shave a week off because it doesn't have to go through customs....

Ok, so that's good to know and explains the "extreme winter conditions" caveat from Dinan. So basically as long as you keep the front grill intake area free from snow or snow somehow getting into the airbox, you're ok...
Seems reasonable.

I agree and although I still run an aftermarket intake because I like the sound, I have been strongly considering going back to stock with a KN filter. I very much doubt that they add the power they advertise, but the sound is great.

Go Back to stock for a few days and see how it feels. replacing the intake is a 10 min job. Lets us know how it goes. Might want to do a battery reset also so the car adapts again.

We will be releasing our intake line very soon.
The factory intake does a great job at stock power levels. Once you start adding modifications, there is room to craft a better performing system. That was our focus, extracting maximum power when overall maximum power is expected. You also get the benefits of a sealed airbox system for the lowest possible IAT's, a refined increase in turbo noise, and thick, UV protected, carbon fiber construction at a great price. |
