Cheapest Improvement for your Car's Interior - Replace the Weathertech Mat Logo

Have those Weathertech Winter Mats? Don't you hate the Weathertech Logo?

I have an M2 and made up some "M" Stickers to replace the existing logo.

Thing is I had to do a minimum run of 100. So I'm selling them off.

They are not expensive $11/pair shipped to the US. Or $12CN if you live in Canada. I'm not making money!

Like this. PM me with your email address if you would like a pair or 2.

Thanks for your orders. I can't believe the response. I've shipped out at least 60 this weekend.

Trademark infringement if you aren't paying a licensing fee, do what you want but if anyone and everyone could use a brands logo billions wouldn’t be spent protecting trademarks.

How much money am I making = $0

Why don't BMW rebrand these mats? MINI do. Not worth the money.

No one here is making any money or in any way being really bad. We are not saying or being disrespectful. Are we selling these mats saying they are BMW originals. NO NO NO. When IND repaint an original part a different color and sell it.....I would say the "Brand Lawyer" should go after them. They are modifying a possible copy written logo for money.

Just saying, I worked for Lego toys that spent millions protecting trademarks and patents and was President of another consumer goods company. We did inward and outbound licensing and generally its 8% fee to license a brand and I’ve worked with Lego, Mattel, Marvel, Disney and others. This is no different then someone putting a Nike logo on shoes at a store or flee market. I agree its minor but it is illegal however minor it appears.

Agree with you - technically - but it's not even worth BMW's time to have an in house paralegal send a cease and desist letter. I talk to IP lawyers every day, you've gotta pick your battles.

This is firmly in the no harm / no foul category in my book.

Could not agree more this is a silly conversation. I understand trademarks and patents. This not that. I am not seller mats pretending that they are BMW mats. In fact I made up some stickers that say "M" based on a BMW design yes. But am only selling to people that already own and paid for their product.
Really am I not just helping them advertise.
If I was the owner of that logo I would be only too happy and not see it as anything but a bonus.

I could be in more trouble than you I even went so far as to modify the logo for my own purposes. I did, however, show it to a friend at BMWNA and their response was "that's fucking awesome."

I never said don’t do it and I agree it will probably never reach their radar but I guarantee some BMW employees read these threads. Licensing is a huge business and its not wise to stick it in their face because they may bite back.

I find 2 things absolutely disturbing after reading this thread:

1. 60+ people chose to buy these aftermarket mats when BMW offers an OEM 2-series all-weather mat that does the exact same thing, but with a BMW logo... from BMW... and for like half the price.

2. 60+ people chose to put more tacky M badges on their cars.

Shame on so many different levels. Tsk tsk tsk.

….and the reason is.....

The stock mats don't work.
(You clearly don't live near snow) The Weahertech mats have high edges and actually stop liquids getting on your expensive carpet as opposed to the BMW mats which don't.

So I find it somewhat interesting that you are "disturbed" by this.

I must take exception. Of all the signs of the self-inflicted apocalypse, I believe you missed what is among the greatest. The below post only has four words, yet it starts with the meaningless, "Like".

I was born and raised in the Midwest, so I do happen to know what this thing called snow is. The edges on my BMW all-weather mats are more than sufficient. The carpet goes much higher than the edge of the mats anyway, so the higher edge of the Weathertech mat isn't going to help at all if you are really going to smash your snow-packed shoes against the side of the floor area.

You are right there are 60 stupid people.

Owe yes ….and I own a set of both mats as they gave me a set of BMW mats as part of the deal.

I must be even more stupid than the other 60.
