This test of Amazon Basics vs. LiquiMoly just came out today. It's home-brew scientific, but a somewhat convincing case for Amazon Basics (made by Warren).

Maybe ill try Amazon Basics oil... Man, never thought I'd say that.

I just watched this too, I love watching this guy.

Kinda disappointed with the results, but I'm still gonna stick with the liqui. I read a couple coments that said the 4200 was not a full synthetic.... But I didn't look I'm to if further. I use special tech long life.

Maintains viscosity much better as well.
Liquimoly NOACK is pretty bad like 9.6% barely made the LL01 requirement that is 10% i think...

I would go with Penzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40
or AMSOIL European Car Formula 5W-40 Classic

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't BMW require that LL01 designated oil be used otherwise they could void engine warranty? I vaguely remember reading that somewhere a while back. I've used LiquiMoly in my past 3 BMW's with no issues. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. For me at least.

liqui moly 5w40 is ll01 approved and I think the noack is actually higher than 9%, not sure though. It was a concern at first but the noack level has a much bigger impact on n54s. N55 engines have a much better design and it shouldn't be a problem. I have a friend actually who has a '13 335i with about 85k miles who just had his vcg done and his insides looked great. Hes been running the same oil for almost 60k.

Amazon Basics is LL01? I don't see it listed anywhere on the bottle. I've been using Liqui Moly in my past 3 BMW's as mentioned because it is LL01.

Oh ok lol I was talking about LM which I've been using for almost 10 years without incident. For me I'll stick with it since it's been working just fine in all my BMW's. I don't know if BMW will void warranty if using non-LL01 oil such as the Amazon brand?

Not sure how easy would be for them to analyze the oil and figure if it's LL01 or not but I would only use LL01 oil
