UPDATE: rotors retaining screw

- Broken Retaining Screw on rotor is finally drilled thru but cannot get the original remnant out. Used a tapering wrench and re-cut the tread and was able to screw in the new screw.

- new rotor installed.

- Worked on next front wheel rotor. Guess what? One of wheel bolts was stripped by the ImpactTool.

Guess I don't have a lot of luck with this car.

I'm going to take it in to the independent mechanic and get them to do:
- brake system flush
- replace that rotor
- align the wheels

Sorry to hear after all that's already happened that you ran into this glitch, too.

While I have a cordless impact gun and a high-quality regulator for use with a gas bottle, I've gone back to using these tools for installing and removing lug nuts:

If the wheel bolt thread is damaged, I would have the hub inspected for thread damage and replaced if any is found.

No, the thread is fine.
It's the head of the nut that got stripped by the high power ImpactTool.
Perhaps, the lug nuts are already old.

I just ordered 15 to replace some of the worn out ones.

Thanks to the Irwin Bolt Extractor (Bolt-grip), I got the sucker out!
And, replaced the left front rotors.
Of course, the car just wanted to be fair with me so the retaining screw for the old rotor was also stuck and I had to drill it out.

What a journey .... screws and bolts can get stuck and break.
Bolt extractor carbon steel drill bits can also break.

Just had to be patient and keep plodding along.

Also, if you are using an ImpactDriver to remove and tighten wheel lug nuts, do invest a torque-limiting stick to reduce the torque.
