Impossible Trunk Access/Blown Fuse/Convertible

$25 giftcard to anyone who has the magic solution.

SO... somehow, someway, I went back to my 228i convertible after a hot beach day in FL, and the "lighting systems malfunction" warning came on.

Car starts, drivable.

My trunk has become a safe. And yes, being a convertible means its different than the normal F22 that you can just take the rear seat off/part of the side panel and stick a pole to release the rear seat.

Except the rear turn signals don't work, the backup camera doesn't work, the key fob trunk access doesn't work, the manual trunk by your left foot doesn't work. The top also won't go down.

That means, I can't get into the trunk to fold down the rear seat (seat singular, the non-convertible has two sections, the convert has one large foldable seat with the tiny access), and if its a blown fuse, I can't get to it.

The dealership isn't even sure what to do. BMW roadside said a locksmith wouldn't be able to even pry the trunk open.

#1, what's the problem?
#2, defect or just blown fuses?

As of now, I took the rear seat off and have bought an endoscope I'm going to try and fish under the seat into the trunk to try and somehow "push" the trunk access release open.

In my previous 335 I had a failure in the flexible wiring harness that connects the trunk lid to the body of the car. That affected the rear lights and trunk release. Not a vert though so I was able to access the trunk through the pass through.

Also possible it is the Rear End Module. Does your fuel gauge work properly? That would also be part of the REM.

I think this is a case where a code reader would probably help narrow things down.

good suggestions

Everything from the front end to the trunk works (fuel, headlights, turn signal, etc etc) except the button for the top to go down located in the center console but probably connected to the rear)..... the harness seems very likely... also the REM sounds likely.... knowing the problem doesn't sold how to get to it! BMW corporate has no idea how to get in, they said they'd have to call in an engineer as they've never heard of it let alone on a convert....

PS, this ironically happened the weekend of the largest geostorm/solar flare in the last 19 years.

Does your convertible top work? Can you open it part way so the clamshell is open, remove the protective curtain below and snake your way to the trunk or seat release?

What codes do you have ? You should have something. Check your owner's manual to see if there are instructions to fold the top manually. Can you disconnect the battery from the engine bay? Maybe, it would trigger a reset of the sensors. Just a few suggestions.
