Are you running a tune that clears the code. Everyone I see with the BMS/Injen one claims to get a CEL that can only be removed through coding

BMS is a short-ram and he wanted a CAI. Dinan is pricey as heck but I haven't heard of anyone complaining of a CEL https://www.dinancars.com/product/d7...-f32-f36-435i/

Yeah I was checking that one out now. It's a dry filter like stock if I'm not mistaken. It seems like any oil filter is gonna throw a CEL on this car

AFE's CAI is another option and is $170 less than Dinan. I don't recall complaints on these either: https://afepower.com/afe-power-54-12...-intake-system

I have a Dinan CAI, it sounds good and doesn't really throw a CEL. I have had a CEL come up a couple times while driving extended periods of time in cold weather.

Mobile site doesn’t show what car he drives unfortunately, but on the m240i, the BMS is the exact same as all of the other CAIs. It adds an adapter and a cone just like all the others. The filter stays in the exact same location of the engine bay as all of the others. The only difference between it and the others is replacing the pipe that goes to the turbo which is not necessary and adds additional, unnecessary costs.

Again, this is isolated to the B58 motor, not the n55

I’m in a m240i so can’t speak for the m235i, but in mine I have never had a cel without my jb4 installed, but most of the time I have the jb4 on. Only take it off for dealer visits and it usually stays off for a few days until I get time to reinstall it.

Wow so it seems like no one has a 100% answer. From what I gather the Afe and Dinan CAI are "safest" with still a few reports of CELS both webpages don't guarantee a no CEL either. Yet, bms/injen seem like a 50/50 for some people.

This is making it very hard to pull the trigger for me

Only one I've ever seen advertised as offering a no CEL guarantee is the AWE Tuning S-flo carbon intake. It's pricy and seems hard to find. Not sure if this is in stock, but I found one here (https://x-ph.com/awe-tuning-bmw-335i...carbon-intake/)

Go with the Dinan. I would be very surprised if you threw an CEL.

Have you considered an OE MPPK lower intake with a drop in filter? No CEL, higher flow, better sound than stock. And a lot cheaper than other options.

I realize I may be comparing apples to oranges here, but I had a AFE with oiled filter on my E46 and consistently threw CELs

I finally gave up and put a bit of black tape over the light.

Lower as in... lower in the engine bay?

No, the upper part of the air box and intake tube are the same as stock. Its the lower intake box (that hooks up to the air channel) that is different. You can purchase just the lower air box.

According to BMWs material, the additional opening in the lower air box is supposed to help with increased air flow, back pressure, and better sound. I run it myself.
