Screen Bubbles

I've noticed that my 4 y.o. Navigation Screen has couple of air bubbles. Does not look like there is any kind of screen protector. Anyone else seen this issue?

Complained about it during my regular service appointment and BMW replaced the screen under warranty.

Mine started doing this a week ago that I noticed. Think it started with the change in the season. Will have to get it looked at shortly, out of warranty in August.

Screen bubble

I had the same thing happen on my iDrive screen. Apparently it's called delaminating and I had no trouble getting it replaced under warranty two weeks before it expires.

Mine (2015 228) is having the screen replaced next week.. goodwilled as just out of warranty (56k miles).. SA said it's $ 4,000 if out of pocket.. Get it fixed if you have them before warranty is up.

My warranty just expired. Does CPO cover this? Looking for sum ammo to fight the dealer. I don't see it under the CPO of non covered items. Thanx in advance

Currently in the same situation... didn't realize my warranty on my 235 expired in June 2019 and took it in for service today. I asked the dealer to look into getting it replaced under good will warranty so we'll see how that goes. Wish I knew, I would have taken it in 2 months ago but since my service was not due until August 19, I waited.... ughhh hopefully they can work some magic if not I don't know what I'm going to do. Maybe contact BMW direct and ask nicely? I mean I just missed the cut so hopefully it can get fixed.

For sure. Well, I picked up my car yesterday and the SA did not have good news for me. He said BMW denied covering said screen. My SA was really trying to help and said I should try and contact other dealers and see if they have better luck getting it pushed through on their end. I thought that was that yet this morning he texted me from the dealer number, I guess they do that now, to say he felt bad and really had no say in it but he will actually reach out to friends at other dealers for me to see if they can lend a hand.... Did not expect that at all and that's awesome on his part to try and help like that.

All in all this kinda sucks but I am thinking of still contacting BMW directly if all else falls through.

Yea I would. I still have my CPO coverage and i want to try that. It does not say anything about NOT covering the screen. I was just looking for more ammo to fight it. Good luck

Wow my screen is doing this but on a much much worse scale! I’m at 41k and the car is a 2016 228i so I’m taking it into them on Monday the 28th! Hopefully they will replace it since this is a terrible eye sore and something you wouldn’t expect from a bmw!

Same issue here. Unfortunately, I did not have any luck with the dealer. I was just over the warranty period and even took it up to BMW NA. Got a call back like two weeks after I emailed them to tell me they would not be fixing it for me,

My solution was to swap in a used, good condition, unit. The original screen "bubble" started off small but of course, worsened over time. Here is a pic I found from a while back. I still have the bubbled up screen in case you want the production lot/date on it.

Same thing happened to me. Looked into replacing just the glass. Not possible as these are glued to the LCD. If you need a replacement mint condition display for ID5/ID6 cars, I have one for the 2 Series.

You know the dealership is trying to say that my car which is still under bumper to bumper warranty mind you is not qualified for a replacement because this is considered cosmetic. Let me explain as to why this isn’t cosmetic. During the manufacturing process the laminate that was used was not put on properly which is why you are seeing people with these issues. I’ve seen cars that are 10 years old with screen that have had 0 issues! This is a 3 1/2 year old car! Could have been the quality of laminate a bad batch of glue either way this will eventually get worse and obstruct you’re view of the screen. They should be replacing them without question! This isn’t something I have done to it. It happened because it’s a manufacture defect! Interestingly enough people seemed to be having luck getting them replaced by BMW at a certain point. Until they realized they messed up and decided to cut the cost of replacing them and calling it a “cosmetic” issue therefore avoiding having to replace it in their shady bumper to bumper warranty. The dealership had the audacity to offer me 50% off the screen! Only 1800 dollars LMAO! Awesome BMW Long Beach! I have reached out to BMW NA we will see how this goes. It’s not about the cost of the screen it’s about doing the right thing. Companies are constantly doing things like this and I’m getting sick of it!

Thumbs up

OK! so here's my update! After 3 months of constant pressure to find a resolution I finally succeeded in getting BMW to replace my idrive screen! SO the problem i was facing was BMW Long Beach was classifying the screen bubbles as cosmetic which the CPO warranty does not cover anything that could be deemed cosmetic! However what they were failing to realize is that this issue is not cosmetic and will eventually effect the visibility of the screen which could be a potential liability to BMW. I had to get into contact with BMW North America when i hit a road block here at BMW Long Beach. Loman a representative who i have been dealing with at BMW NA was incredible in finding a resolution for me. Long story short i took my car to the dealership it was originally purchased at and they were able to replace it under CPO warranty! Even got Apple Car Play installed! Loving the new screen!

Did you get CarPlay installed by BMW or third party?

Usually OEM CarPlay only takes up the left 2/3 of the screen.
