LSD Durability
Seeking opinions and experiences.
I have a brand new 2020 M240i and I just today had the MP limited slip differential (LSD) installed. What type of durability should I expect? This is my daily driver and it is driven conservatively most of the time. A longtime work colleague who currently owns a Porsche Turbo and has owned GT3s says the LSD may last as few as 5,000 miles! The vehicle already drives differently. We have lots of steep hills (Seattle, especially downtown and other areas) and the rear wheels seem to "bite" better. Haven't thrashed it yet as the car still has < 300 miles. On this car before today and on my previous M235i, the tires could be vaporized without traction control and would bog down with traction control (no LSD on either). Finally, I think others have talked about doing "figure 8s" and other maneuvers to help break in the LSD. Any advice here? Thanks very much. |

Let Dan know what you have and how you use it, and he'll give you an accurate idea of what to expect, how to break it in, when to change the oil, which oil to use, and anything else he can think of. I recommend calling; he's up to his ears in diffs, and his emails can be cryptic. https://diffsonline.com/.
