Changing my own oil in B58. Crush washers look different?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out what BMW is doing with their crush washers for the B58 oil drain plug. There seems to be a discrepancy with the part numbers and/or the crush washer dimensions. Hoping someone can shed some light.
Note both washers in this pic below were ordered from ECS Tuning. The washer at the bottom (p/n 07119963132) is for the B58/M240i, however, it is noticeably thinner than the one above it (p/n 07119963151) for the N55/M235i. What's strange is that the crush washer included with the B58 oil filter kit (p/n 11428583898) is of the thicker type like the N55 crush washer. I have 2 B58 oil filter kits and both have a thicker washer. What is going on here? Why is the one B58 crush washer so much thinner than the others and why does the N55 crush washer with a different part # look exactly like the B58 washers in the filter kits?

I think I found the problem.

Are you implying these are packaged and labeled by ECS Tuning employees? It crossed my mind, however, note the perforated edges of each plastic wrapper. To me, they look like they were pre-packaged by BMW (aka their OEM supplier) and individually torn off of a longer strip/roll of individually wrapped washers. Had they been in little zip-lock bags or melted shut with a lighter, I might be a bit more skeptical.

Also, if this spare washer packaging is not from the OEM, can someone link me to a pic of what it should look like? My washers are clearly from a larger bulk supply (again, note perforated edges), but I have no clue who packaged them originally or where they came from, if not from BMW/the OEM.

So as long as the washer somewhat tightly seats around the bolt threads and fully under the bolt head, there should be no issue. It's not like the oil is going to all pour out immediately or let the bolt loosen. Any good DIYer would also let the car run for a good 5 minutes to make sure the washer isn't leaking after an oil change before buttoning everything up.

If ever you're in a pinch and you don't have a replacement washer, flip it over, very lightly sand it down and use it once more.
