I recently picked up the Dinan exhaust and mid-pipe. I took it to a local shop I use and the mechanic couldn't get it to sit right. Pipes were very low & crooked. He said it was "the best he could do." I ended up taking it to BMW of Manhattan, my local dealer & authorizes Dinan installer/dealer. After a full day on the lift, it came back exactly the same as I dropped it off. Told them it was still crooked. Left it overnight for a full reinstall and they just sent me a picture of the result. Looks better, but still looks like it's hanging low... anyone experience this? Am I seeing things? Second pic was the original install.

That looks pretty bad. If all else fails, you could take it to a muffler shop and have them make corrections by shortening the hangers. It might not be what you want to do but it is an affordable option. Or you could send it back but at this point, I'm assuming you spent a good amount on the labor hours for the two shops.

To adjust the tips up you need to angle the joint where the exhaust connects to the mid pipe down.

Loosen it, pull down on the connection then tighten the clamp.

a few reasons for this.

1 - the connection at the clamp
2 - adjust the tips
3 - aftermarket hangers
4 - screws not tightened all the way.

i would first get under the car and look around. is everything tight? its only 2 bolts that hold the hanger. if they are tight, than while under there, loosen the clamp up.

with the clamp loosen, push and pull the muffler till it sits better.

I used to use my tool box to lift the muffler up, now tightening the clamps. This should bring it closer and you should use the tip adjustments to fine tune.

They "did their best," so they tell me. Still hanging a little low, and now there's some loud metal on metal rattling in mid pipe section when going over bumps. Can't win over here :

I just posted this in another exhaust thread but this may help you.

I have had the dinan midpipe and exhaust for the last 8 months and the clamp holding the two mid pipes has come lose twice. When the clamp comes loose, it causes the mid pipe to sag and rattle on the cross member. My exhaust is also hanging to low.

The first time i brought in my car for the rattle + the exhaust being to low, BMW fixed the rattle but said there is nothing they can do about the exhaust. My car started to rattle again last week, but instead of taking it back to BMW, today i took it to an exhaust shop to put it on a lift to see exactly whats going on.

As we suspected, the clamp holding the midpipe together was loose so we pushed both midpipes back together and re tightened the clamp which stopped the rattle but the mid pipe is barely clearing the cross member. Slightly pushing up on the muffler (to the point where the tips fit flush in the rear diffuser) also moved the midpipe roughly an inch above the cross member.

My plan going forward is to buy smaller exhaust hangers which will solve the exhaust hanging to low and stop the midpipe from hitting the cross member. If the clamp comes lose again we are just going to weld the clamp together.

Mine isn't sitting that low but it is sitting a little low. Also the right tip is a little closer but not as bad as the pic makes it look. After my midpipe which is still stock looked way lower to the ground. A different post mentioned rotating the mid pipe to help fix this

This thread has made me promise myself to go MPE if I decide to do a catback. This sucks for you guys that paid good money for this exhaust.

FWIW, I was talking to my BMW Svc Mgr and he was telling about a guy who ordered the Dinan exhaust and mid-pipe. After the install, the guy (after getting down on his knees and checking the under carriage) thought it was hanging too low and had them remove it.

Saw this post and thought it was worth mentioning. Dunno if it is the design, but the aftermarket should tuck right up where the stock system sits.

Haven't confirmed it yet but I think the fitment issue has something to do with a weld in the mid pipe that's preventing adjusting the exhaust upward. I'm actually going back to the stock mid pipe so we'll see how that works out.

For unknown reason, some exhausts are hanging too low with stock BMW hangers.
I have solved with high performance hangers Autobahn88.

Just saw this thread and I saw a 340i recently that had the dinan exhaust fitted and it was hanging very low as well (probably even worse than some of you here). The dinan on my 230i (which is a totally different exhaust) is sitting pretty perfectly for me.

Bump...
I have same issue with my 328i dinan exhaust, for sure hangs low.
I can lift up on the exhaust so not sure if clamp is too loose (should i be able to move my exhaust up and down?). When i lift up it looks good but as soon as I start the car the exhaust falls back in place. Seems like the exhaust and midpipe line up better when the exhaust is hanging.... Maybe I need to take the clamp off and reinstall it.

Dinan exhausts don't seem to work perfectly with stock hangers. A couple of reasons: One, the metal hanger bolted to the under-body is not always in the exact same place and Two, the stock rubber hangers are not stiff enough to keep the exhaust perfectly centered if alignment is a little off. After installation, my diffuser opening melted on one side because the exhaust moved over against it. This is the single sided free-flow exhaust. I fixed the issue with zip ties to keep the left and right slippage from occurring. This actually created counter force between left and right hangers and the exhaust tips stay perfectly centered. BTW Dinan replaced the diffuser.

The clamp holding the mid pipe together has come lose and is is rattling again. I am taking it to an exhaust shop and i am going to have them weld the clamp. I am tired of the thing coming loose every few months.
