17" TIRE?
OK, so I am sure the answer to this question is some where in here but darn if I can find it.
I have a 2019 230x with the 17 inch wheels what is the widest I can safely go without having to trade up to 18" wheels. I was think if I could just go up to a 215-45 that gives me just a little more contact between the tire and the road with out giving up appreciable side wall height (just really don't want to deal with all the issues some have with potholes and don't want or need to firm up the ride more). Or would a 225-45 be possible with the current wheels Thanks |

Are the wheel widths 7.5"? Width of the tires mainly a function of the width, instead of diameter, of the wheel. What fits in the wheel well also a consideration.

I think you’ll find more of a variation in handling and grip between brands and performance categories than you would in the same tire of minor width differences.
Better to stick to the original size and just get a better tire. Seth |

If you have the 725 style wheels, they are 7.5" wide and will fit up to a 235/45-17 tyre (specified for 7.5" to 9" wide wheels), but a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in 225/45-17 (specified for 7" to 8.5" wide wheels) would probably give the best grip of any commonly available tyre and still maintain the correct overall tyre diameter.
