License plate screw size

Anybody know what size the license plate screws are? Looking at some older bimmerpost posts for other models suggests that they are of size M5x10mm. Can anybody confirm that this is the size for all BMW's including the 2?

I want to get something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/320957286696 but want to make sure it'll fit.

My car is still on its way to me over the Atlantic ocean which is why I'm asking - otherwise I would just take the original screw out to see of course!

M5x10mm will work. They are machine screws. You could go as short as 8mm and as long as 12mm (not sure about 15mm) and be OK, too. The other issue is screw head size; you'll want a fairly large one that spans the typical license plate hole easily.

Looks like the ones in my link are M6-1.0x20 so that means they won't work right?

If you are asking if an M6 screw will fit in an M5 hole the answer is no.

I drive a 3 series, but I think the rear license plate screw size is similar. If so, the original equipment (OEM) size would be M5x0.8 x 8mm long.

Depending on how deep your plate/frame configuration is, you may need to go as long as 16mm, but that would be the extreme. I've used a 12mm length with just a plate, or plate with thin metal frame, with no issues.

These guys have some decent high-quality stainless hardware:

Cheers.

Go to Ace Hardware. You can get stainless steel in clean looking hex head, or Phillips head. Work perfect for me.

In my original link, the cool thing with those are the neo-chrome washers so I guess I could get those washers and get the correct screws separately. Thanks for the replies guys.
