IMO you need TPMS most in winter...I personally would not go without it and I'm anal enough to hate seeing the triangle every time I start the car.
Call Brian @ Sun Motors BMW Parts Dept...He'll give you the best deal. I purchased mine there over tire rack or the local bmw dealers

I just got my winter wheels (MSW Type 86) delivered from the Tire Rack today, and I got the sensors from them too. They came mounted to the wheels. I did not find them much of any cheaper elsewhere, and these are OEM Continental sensors, not Chinese knock-offs (if those even exist at this point). Best price I found for the sensors elsewhere was $59 + shipping - made it a wash.
I ended up splitting my order. Wheels and sensors from Tire Rack for $850 with shipping, ordered Falken Eurowinter tires from Discount Tire Direct for $424, shipped for free. Local mounting and balancing runs $50-60. I went with 225/40-18s, as if the weather is actually bad I drive my old Range Rover. Tire Rack's 18" options in a V-speed rated winter tire were almost 2X the price, plus additional shipping cost. I really did want to buy all of it from one place, but Discount Tires wheel selection sucked. One thing to be wary of if you buy sensors from one of the cheap places is it is VERY easy to get the wrong ones. I went through that with my Saab 9-3 back in '09. Saab changed the sensor for '08 just like BMW did for '15, and the place I bought them from did not know that. $120 to the dealer to figure out why they did not work. The vendor was nice enough to pay for the dismount and remount, but would not cover that diagnostic charge. I bet if it had been Tire Rack they would have covered the whole thing, and likely not made the mistake in the first place. Lesson learned.

Yes. When ordering from TR you will get asked that question if you did not specify the MY in the beginning.

I know this thread is two plus years old, but here is some source information for TPMS sensors:
I bought them from ********* at around $120 for set of four...Free shipping. This was in Nov 2016. Prices now are around $160 for set of 4 and on sale for $140. Much better than Tire Rack. Huf Intellisense are the OEM sensor for most BMWs. Made in Germany and are normally orange for BMWs. Can be grey color for Minis. The guys at ********* are very helpful and told me about Real OEM to verify parts. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do The sales rep said he used to work for BMW and is very knowledgable and will help you determine the correct OEM TPMS sensor. There are some that are programmable / universal (more expensive) sensors or choose the exact one for your car. The rep informed me the programmable ones are not needed and also require a special instrument to program them. They come with instructions and torque values (important). Here it is for reference: Sensors/valves mounted professional: Note: Between 1.5 Nm and 3.3 Nm (13-29 in-lbs) you will notice a sluggish movement until the shear collar breaks free. Turn further until the final torque moment of 4 Nm (35 in-lbs) is reached. Then you have mounted the sensor and valve correctly. https://www.intellisens.com/fileadmi..._guideline.pdf I have coded all my F-Series cars via E-Sys to show Temps and PSI. Although this feature is available to display on the IDrive screen, it is not normally coded on many vehicles in the US. M235 is one exception. These HUF intellisens sensors provide both Temp and Pressure readings. The winter/summer tire swap re-learn process for my F25, F30, etc. is nothing other than reset on IDrive and drive 300 feet or so. Other information: each 10 degree of temp change equates to about 1 PSI. So if you are in an area of large temp swings (like I am in VA), the pressures can change easily change 5 PSI in the course of one day. Knowing the temp changes from ambient to driving conditions is helpful. Yesterday my temps/pressure were 30/30.8 on front at startup and 64/34.2 PSI while running down the road. Of course all you that have this feature know how useful it can be. I highly recommend the Temp/PSI display - one of my favorite feature in my BMWs. |
