LOL, I think they are placing QR code stickers in the gas caps AND opposite side (someplace) now a days so firemen can know where to quickly do emergency things like placement points for "jaws of life" or power kill switches, etc...

The passenger compartment is totally intact. That is all that matters.

Be sure BMW is going over the car with a microscope. Any accident is good for r&d. Those that assume the driver is out a job now should think twice. Shite happens.

Also, for those that say it looks pretty bad, umm... it was an Autobahn crash at "high speeds." The cabin is still completely in tact! Doesn't look that bad to me considering...
Exactly what I was thinking. The cabin is pristine. No deformation behind the firewall. All in all, very good I think.

+1

If anything it would be much worse if the front end had held up better. That would mean more force was transmitted to the driver.

Perhaps they do real world testing to calculate how much fuel they use in real world environments?

Nope.

Why is it that car manufacturers get away with quoting misleading figures? I think I might sue them for the extra fuel I've spent over the years above what they told me it would achieve.

Put your complaints to the governments that made an unrealistic testing procedure mandatory for all manufacturers. Oh, if you get your way, CO2 emissions will go up, as will all the related taxes. Still sure you want those figures?

They put the same rims on the M135i mule, so not conclusive in any way. Not a M235i though, wrong brake calipers and exhaust...

Looks like the fuel door decellerators deployed, but failed to reduce collision speed

Totalled my Subaru Forester doing approx 55 kmph (33 mph) at impact several months ago with very similar front end damage, so obviously there was a lot of braking by the 2er before the accident.

Driver had been told it was an M235i? Maybe not used to numb BMW electronic steering? Thought new 2 series should weigh like 3000# shocked to.find out weighs 3600# ? Or maybe staring at Nav screen google search?

Next time let the BMW fans take a few pics, instead of trying to get away like some celebrity fleeing the paparazzi.

Most likely one of the front run flats hit a stray paper clip, causing the wheels to violently tramline and ripping the wheel from the drivers hands.

It sucks that happened.

From the pictures it looks like a regular 2 series and not a M235i since it lacks the M performance front BBK like the one on the M135i.

Probably new pedestrian safety system. Car hit a skunk and front end went to shreds. Skunk ok though.

Different regions have FEDERALLY sanctioned fuel economy tests (they are NOT the same, so results from one region may not match that from another, plus, the vehicle may be tuned differently to account for local rules). BMW and other car manufacturers list the results of tests they DO NOT RUN FOR RECORD, or if they do run them, they must run them per the sanctioned procedure. Now, if you drove exactly like the test procedure called for, you'd likely get the same results. Don't know anyone that does that! If you want better fuel economy, drive slower and don't accelerate hard, and don't don't idle in traffic.

While that is a great idea, it flew open due to the force involved.
On all modern BMW's the power is instantly & automatically cut to the car once it is involved in a moderate to serious accident.
