Sold: Subaru BRZ; Acquired: M240i xDrive. Pre-separation Photo!
Super excited about this! My first BMW was an early 2000s E39 528i. It feels so good to be back after over a decade!
I loved my BRZ to death -- it is a whole lot of fun to drive a slow car fast. I kept the modifications tasteful, only doing springs, tail lights, headers+catback, a tune, E85, and a Jackson Racing Supercharger. The car didn't look much different than stock. But I'm happy to be able to drive a fast car fast again (or maybe just kinda fast until track day). The B58 really sold me. Aside from a boring Golf R, I just couldn't find the same cost-to-value ratio on anything else and still retain a requisite AWD system. A real bummer that there is no manual xDrive model stateside, but the ZF automatic felt really good, so it works. Not planning any big mods to this beauty -- it is damn good as is. I've coded a few things in, will likely slap a JB4 on it, mayyyybe springs (coming from the stiff low center of gravity BRZ, this car feels a bit floaty) but I think everything else will stay stock for quite awhile. The car has a few nice port-installed accessories, like the M Performance alcantara, the paint-matched front splitter, and carbon fiber shifter surround/paneling. I think my only regret is not getting the tech package, so no wide headunit/iDrive 6. Oops. I guess that is just a learning for next time. The car is a lease. I need xDrive for the winters out here (I know, I know, snow tires are good enough etc. -- not for my wife though...), and so this will hold me over until that rumored xDrive replacement coming to future M series that allows the driver to select bias, including 100% rear. Anyway, here was the pickup day, before the BRZ was sold: Cheers to a new community! Last edited by Enwave; 06-22-2017 at 01:51 AM.. |

Welcome. Personally I think suspension is a must...I'm on Dinan Spring & Bumpstop (I think it fits the bill...any lower and the car isn't driveable).
Haven't driven the B58 but I hear great things. |

I test drove the M240i xdrive and was impressed. It is probably faster than my e92, I really liked it! It was a little soft feeling which is perfect for the street.

Congrats, and nice pic! I love the way the light shows the sculpting on the BMW's hood. Great color choice too....I fell in love with EB II when I first saw it.
I'm like you in that I won't be modifying my M240i much, if at all. It's so good right out of the box. All my previous cars have had significant suspension makeovers for track days, autocross, etc, but now I'm at an age where I appreciate an extra bit of comfort. I considered the M2, but the M240i is just a bit stealthier...flies under the radar a bit more, but with most of the M2's performance. Classy and athletic-looking, but with restraint...perfect! Steering feel is not the best, but that's why I'm keeping the E46! Last edited by rightrudder; 06-29-2017 at 12:13 PM.. |

or The upper LCA bearing replacement offerings from Dinan & Bimmerworld on the stock arms. The added camber and solid bearings/bushes will make the car feel "raw" again, everything BMW did to deviate from such feel for the ladder of consumers.. D |

non run flat tires, springs, handling kit, more negative camber (with plates or LCA) will make it a very tight, stiff suspension. Similar to an e46 m3 IMO, others may say different.

And what is TS that you were referring to from the M4? curious how the components from the M4 would bring the rawness back. not doubting your suggestions but another poster said that even going to the m2/m3/m4 we won't get that "rawness" back before referencing the E46 M3 as having it. |

I just don’t know if this car is ever going to feel anywhere near the tightness and rawness of a BRZ with suspension work. But that’s not why I bought the M240i – so I’m just hoping for a little bit more with a small amount of work and then I should be happy.
Even though it was other people who asked, I appreciate the recommendations in this thread. I’m excited to get started on just those two or three small things to polish up what I think is an otherwise flawless car! Still loving it after a few weeks. |

The LCA/TS's from the M2/3/4''s have solid bushings and that's what translates back through the steering shaft, making it "feel" more connected. I gotta say, once you get used to the electric rack and the way it adapts to speed, the car feels great (imo). In stock form it's soft, but still communicates and tells you what's happening, just depends what experience you're after, skies the limit to what can be done to make it your own. Manufacturers are intentionally designing cars to be smoother and less "raw" but it's usually a combination of softer engine/trans/diff mounts, and suspension bushings that would make it all come alive, again. That and some exhaust work, coilovers or springs, and you'll notice a huge difference. An LSD would be my first suggestion if you feel your non LSD equipped car feels "disconnected" from the road, even x-drive. Then go from there |

They re-sell pretty well, but I can understand the hesitation on a non owned car. There a few members who've bought LSD's for their leased car and resold for close to MSRP. They are items that don't wear much, and can probably yield 70-80% of their initial cost. Just a thought, or keep an eye out for one of those take offs from another member
