Wheel/Tire Insurance?
Hello all, this is a continuation/repeat of a question I asked earlier. I am planning to take delivery of a new M 240i fairly soon. The car will be shod in 18 inch Performance Non-Run Flat tires(Michelin PSS, I believe?) I am on the fence over whether to pay $1700(for 5 years) for the wheel and tire damage insurance that the dealer offers. So, my question is: Given the nature of our rough roads in Western PA, have any of you that live in areas with rough roads incurred enough wheel or tire damage to justify the cost of said insurance? Thanks!

It may be possible to talk that price down. Definitely try that.
That being said, I do have this package and put it to use recently. Blew out both right tires and bent both wheels in a single pot hole. The plan covered replacing those tires and correcting the wheels. I had to shell out for an alignment and another rear wheel since the tread difference was enough that the car would drift under heavy acceleration. |

How much do you love the factory wheels that you will never want to replace them?
That $1700 could go towards a nice winter set along with a sticker summer set and sell the OEMs on ebay. |

I went ahead and paid full price for it BUT I also got it in writing that it covers aftermarket wheels and tires so long as they are within OEM spec

I'm never one to buy those "extras" the dealer finance folks attempt to sell you....that said, for our '19 230i xDrive...that came with BOTH the MPSS staggered wheels AND a set of four BMW 17" square wheels with Conti TS 830 winters...that wheel and tire package for 5 years made sense to me as it covered all 8 wheels and tires. As previously mentioned, there is a TON of markup in those "insurance" contracts....key is to negotiate to a price point you're comfortable with. To date, I've had cosmetic repairs to two wheels and two rear MPSS tires replaced. With still over 2 years remaining, I'm pretty confident I'll come out ahead....based upon what I paid for the wheel/tire insurance contract.
