Thermostat Hose Flange to Block

I removed the (2) 10 mm flange bolts which provides access to the Oil Cooler / OFHG bolt without issue. The flange was black on the outside and the part was unbroken. The seal was intact. However, inside the line appeared to be light brown and speckled with minor surface cracks. This part is know to fail and I plan on replacing the flange with an aluminum Rein flange from FCP Euro.

Pictured is the part after I removed it from the hose per Rein instructions. I recommend replacing this part as preventative maintenance & during WP/Thermostat R&R.

Yikes!!!!! How often do you change your coolant? Are you using BMW coolant and distilled water? I had the dealer change mine at 3 years. I provided the distilled water.

Being that your car is about 6 years old, did you replace your coolant hoses when doing the water pump and thermostat?

Just a heads up you can get that flange on Rockauto as well, might be cheaper shipping for some vs FCP.

HOSES / REIN & Coolant

Changed Original Coolant at year 3 and now again during this refresh.

Using ONLY BMW Coolant at 50/50 distilled.

This Micky mouse flange and color distortion is normal and this part was all intact & only broken up on removal of the factory hose clamp. Look around -- this is a normal wear pattern on this part & the reason several offer an improved flange.
.
.
ECS / FCP and others offer + many Youtube videos on this subject.
.
Ordered replacement WP / Thermostat hose -- was sent wrong hose from
my favorite vendor : (their website is WRONG)

The correct part # for the M235i is : 11 53 7 628 010 Coolant Hose

Let it Rein

Rein Aluminium hose flange installed.

Fits well and an inexpensive replacement for another plastic (known failure point)

Loved this kind of detail. I did use the supplied Spring Clamp and I was able to torque the (2) bolts. Although snug + 1/6 turn usually works well. I don't have my paper copy of the actual torque in front of me but I did find a link in the forum which defined the torque.
