Nissan COO leaks 2022 Nissan Z specs ( V6 twin turbo, 400hp) and $40k base price?!

Confirms 400hp, on sale in spring 2022, and around $40k starting price.

And if the 4-Cylinder Supra sales haven't started tanking by now, they certainly will next Spring.

Once I have all the details/price/weight on the performance trim, I may spend the extra coin on one of these in stead of the BRZ.

Garage List
I have owned 3 Z's in my life. 1 z31 and 2 Z32 - one being a TT that I owned for close to 15 years. I considered it about the perfect fun car. I had it fairly modded, and it had insane power on the highway, but if you let your grandma drive it, it had perfect manners. The seats were some of the best I have ever owned. Not best in a sports car - best period. I could have driven across the country in those in perfect comfort.

The 350Z left me flat. I wanted to like it, but every time I drove one I felt like I was moving backwards. Not as comfortable to drive. Not NEARLY the power or tightness. And I never cared for the look. The 370 looked better to me, but again - felt more "Corolla" inside to me and never got me close to signing the line.

I really wanted to be excited about this Z. The specs were sounding good, the 6 speed manual got me excited. But the design is just very muted to me. Looks like it will be a great bang for your buck, but that never did it for me. I want to sit in that seat an feel like I belong there and can't stop smiling.

Maybe in person it will look better, but nothing about the outside excites me. I think ioe could drive right by me without notice. I'm not a huge Supra fan either, but you sure as hell notice them when they go by.

I'll reserve judgment till I see one in person I guess. If anything - this has gotten me looking at used Z32's again......LOL

Looks a lot better in that blue (couldn't see any of those great body lines on the yellow they've been using??).

I'll mostly reserve judgement until I see one on the road and hear from people driving it on track etc; but generally it still feels like a facelifted 370Z with a parts bin engine (granted, well face lifted and a well chosen parts bin engine).

I also like/prefer older analog cars so maybe I should be thankful for the (predicted) old bones? I think I also just was very underwhelmed driving the 370Z and this just reminds me too much of that. What I really want is for them to take that chassis design up a notch to the level of driving dynamics/experience of the BRZ or M2.

I also point blank have zero interest in a sports car without a manual transmission, so I would be willing to stifle all of my criticisms for the fact that it comes with one. And for that reason as well, the supra is entirely unable to compete with this in my mind.

I don't know. I guess I'm very confused about how I feel about this car. I'll bring it up with my therapist and get back to you guys

I must say, after seeing the specs it's a pleasant surprise. It's about the only thing that would work, but many makers seem intent on shooting themselves in the foot. It's a decent performance effort and decent numbers. It's kind of like yeah, they had to go to at least 400hp to get competitive with other stuff out there and make it stand out, in addition to offering 6spd and good performance packages. Unlike Subaru and the ancient STI, which just keeps getting passed up year after year and when Subaru finally does something, chances are everyone will still be ahead.

I am curious to see what the specs for the new STi are going to be. Hopefully they will really be able to wring some good power out of the FA24 while keeping the weight reasonable.

I'm not expecting much. I'd like to see 360/360, but in reality I think it's going to be closer to 340hp. Either way, from the WRX footage so far, the new car looks cheap in ways that I don't think Subaru can fix with a refresh. For example, the stamped looking fender flares as opposed to actual real flares on the current and 08-14 gen. The new one just looks like they're bent into shape with a dinky little 4 inch vent on the fronts. Looks terrible and cheap, and I'm not sure Subaru has it in them to do the refresh that they did halfway through the 08-14 generation. They're a different company now.

To be fair, I wasn't really a fan of the current generation launch WRX/STI, but the refresh really got me to appreciate and love the design so much so that I bought a 2020 STI in December. Luckily, I have the budget to mod and fix it if something blows, but I understand that's not what everyone is looking for for that kind of money.

But I've since reoriented my mindset from the car having a dinosaur of an engine to realizing that it's a really good car for what it is with 20+ years of aftermarket support to get it to where I want it to be, and once I thought of it that way, the car makes way more sense, and is still more engaging of an experience than almost any new car you can buy anywhere near its price point because it hasn't really changed in so long. I'm sure the new STI will be quicker and post better lap times, but I'm not so convinced it'll be "better" subjectively speaking.

The new WRX is a disappointment with black plastic fender liners from an SUV as it looks like a Crosstrek sedan. Hopefully the STI comes with color matched but still it's kind of tacky for plastic fender liners on a car. Really odd design choice by Subaru but I assume since the Crosstrek amounts to 80% of the Impreza/WRX/Crosstrek sales that it was the lead car for the upcoming generation when it came to styling.
