Coolant hose exploded

Right after I filled up the gas on my 14 m235i I noticed some white smoke coming off from my front grilles. Popped the hood real quick and found out one of the coolant hoses exploded and there was coolant everywhere . Luckily I was driving it when the hose broke on me. Car has 76k miles. Has this happened to anyone before?

So your hose broke off at both ends ?

That does seem unusual.

Yes, a very common failure. It should be high the list of things to replace every 5 years on these cars. Luckily it's only a $40 part and easily replaced in 10 minutes.

Do you by any chance know the specifics in terms of changing the hose? Is it as simple as disconnecting the old and connecting the new one?

Assuming it has not yet broken off and the coolant level is fine but you want to do the preventive maintenance. Thanks!

Sorry for not being clear. My mechanic wondered the same thing lol. It is only broken from one end. I kinda broke the other end by hand when I tried to check on it.

I believe that we need to flush the coolant out before changing the hose.

Do you happen to have the OEM part #? Now I'm paranoid at 42k and want to change it out by 50k just to be safe.

I pulled these from realoem.com and wonding which one is the problem hose:

03 Coolant hose 17127596831 +core
07 Coolant hose 17127624676

Mine busted to hell before 40K. If your reaching maintenance clock, flush your coolant while your at it.

I replaced mine today. I bought the hose after reading this thread. The old hose was good but when I went to disconnect it from the expansion hose, it broke easily. I think I got it just in time.

Took 10 minutes start to finish and at $35 from FPCEuro, I won't ever have to buy one again.

yea its simple.

there is a clip on each end you lift up, pull the hose off, put new one on and push down on the clips.

Done.

Might need a lil flat head to get under it.

These things no doubt will break over time as they become brittle. I do have to wonder about those that have mods like intake and charge pipes that had these break at low mileage on the radiator side. The connection is right in the line of fire when doing these mods and if you're not careful, you could easily compromise the connection when working in the area.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but my car just had the same hose failure. 2015 m235i, 35K miles.

I swapped in the new hose myself, but I haven't done a coolant flush/bleed. Do I need to? I took it to a couple local independent mechanics to see if they'd flush/bleed it, but neither of them wanted the job.

I know that there was air in the line, of course, and after driving it a little yesterday I could hear the air bubbling up in the coolant tank and was still getting low coolant alerts. I let it cool down overnight and added some coolant. I drove it a bit today... no warnings, no bubbling. Am I good to go? Or should I try to find someone who can flush/bleed it? (I don't know how to do that myself}.
