Chargepipe Install - PITA

Just finished up a installing a VRSF Chargepipe on a 16’ 235i MT.

Talk about a pain in the @SS! Couple thoughts on it, feel free to ask questions and I will guide where I can.

- I jacked up the rear driver side, placed my ESCO jackstands with the jackpad from Amazon. Did the same thing on the passenger side. It will wobble/bounce a bit, but you should be good. Put the stands a little higher as you will need room to drop the intercooler.

- Clips are no problem to remove, intercooler has to be worked out as you will see there is likely debris holding it in. Wear some safety glasses, shit will go all over.

- It isn’t too bad to get the chargepipe off and boost hose off.

- The clips that come off, you will re-use so be careful.

- With some twisting and pulling, you will be able to get the chargepipe out through the bottom.

- I put the top piece in first. Then put the rubber joint on, then fished the bottom portion up and connected it all. Keep everything a little loose as you will have to figure out how much to turn the new chargepipe to get it all connected.

- Be sure to tighten down the new clamps tight to avoid any boost leaks

Time for a nap!

How long did it take & mechanically inclined are you? I want to do this but my skills are quite limited.

You should have followed my directions below. There's no need to remove the IC and you can remove the CP through the top, not bottom.

Agreed, I didn't drop the intercooler my 235. Just pulled the old out through the top.

Downpipe on an xdrive can suck! If you need advice on that, I have it down to a science

Pretty mechanically inclined… I have never taken any car to a shop and do everything myself. Work on motorcycles and dirt bikes in the past too.

I took my time, a few breaks and had some issues getting everything situated. I would say 4-5 hour job.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like something I’ll be paying for instead of DIY’ing.

The directions posted above without removing the intercooler would have saved me a lot of time. Dropping the intercooler and getting everything lined up was a hassle.

I had called a few reputable independent shops by me and was getting quotes for around $500. Good luck!
