Transferring Mp3 files.

I was under the impression I could transfer mp3 files to the idrive system.

So far I've failed. With a Usb stick installed there is no option to copy the files. I've tried different drives, formatted them in different formats etc.. They play but no copy option.

I have just the one usb slot in the centre console.

Anybody any answers?

We just keep the USB stick in the car. If you use one similar to this one: https://shop.westerndigital.com/prod...CZ430-128G-A46 there is no danger of breaking it.

Yeah I'm using one currently. Given the low cost it's not an issue but I'd kind of like to know why mine isn't working.

I think it's working just fine. I'm not aware of any way to copy MP3's into iDrive.

I have the H/K audio and can copy files from USB to iDrive's internal storage. Not sure if that's because the H/K audio, or the premium package. It is possible though.

I thought it was pretty much standard with Idrive?

I've not read anywhere about it being exclusive to any audio package.

Have you tried using the USB inside the armrest? I don't know what format my files are in, but thats where I plugged my USB in and was able to transfer everything easily.

Edit: I do NOT have the H/K System.

I was able to copy like 10gb of music to the i-drive on my car. Not sure if its the same i-drive system but if i remember correctly, you can get to the songs/folders you want on the USB drive through i-drive and then hit the "option" button when you have whatever you want selected.

Kind of a pain in the butt to access the files later, you definitely have to click through a couple menus to get there, but it's not too bad if you have your shortcut buttons set up correctly.

Copied no only the entire library from my phone, but a few CD's as well... Bought a low profile 256GB USB chip, plenty of room for more

I've gone to option but it doesn't come up with anything regards to transferring the files.
The car is currently in the dealers having warranty work so I might ask them.

Is the flash drive you are using usb 2.0 or 3.0? Also do you have the tech package?

Now I'm curious too. Based on the responses here, I searched through every option I could in iDrive and came up with nothing to transfer files. My thumb drive is plugged into the center console and is USB 2.

Could be cars with the smaller idrive screen don't have the internal HD. Are you guys who can't copy stuff from a USB device able to copy CDs?

From what I read online in another forum post only cars with the tech package have the HD with the ability to upload music files. The other cars just have a stand-alone NAV HD that will not allow uploads.

That potentially makes sense reference the smaller screens not having the facility. I've currently got a brand new 3 series on loan and that doesn't do it either. It does have the HK sound system though.
