Front Silver Trim Removal

Anybody know if the silver trim near the front fog lights on sport models can be removed?

I want to spray it black as I don't like the look of it.

If it can't then I'll maybe vinyl wrap it.

It seems to clip over the top of the bumper but I don't want to pull it and break it.

I believe it's removable, and you should be able to sell it to someone in the U.S. for decent money. When the cars first launched at least folks here were trying to source that trim, we don't get it.

It might be the "whiskers" you're referring to - you might find videos on YouTube referring to them. Or consult the factory repair manual. Good luck!

I’m having them wrapped next week along with the bright windows surround mouldings. I’ll post pix when complete.

Found a post on the F30 forum and 'whiskers' seems to be the term to use. Some images of them wrapped but no mention of removal.

The window mouldings came out quite well,

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...7#post25683747

but the wrap installer said he could not do the silver "whiskers" at the fog lamps. He was concerned about breakage if he tried to remove them and he could not get the vinyl installed properly and work the blade for trimming with them in place. He said if I can figure out how to remove them, he'll be glad to do the work.

They seem to move a little under pressure but I can't find any clips holding them on. I've bought some wrap and am going to give it a go with them still fitted although if your expert can't do it I don't hold out any hope.
Suppose I could spray them.

My guy is meticulous. It could be that a reasonable wrap job might be doable, but he won't settle for that. The problem was fitting the blade properly at the back to trim exactly to fit.

The silver part seems quite integral to the black surround...perhaps a one-time attachment at the fascia supplier. The entire black part also seems very secure to the body color fascia. I don't see a safe/easy removal for that.

Perhaps careful masking and spray is the best solution. Realistically, the top and front edge are all that are needed. Who will see the bottom? My concern would be a paint product resistant to chips, given the forward-looking location. Perhaps, Plastidip? Do they make a black gloss? Any paint experts here?

I'm going to give it a go wrapping it myself. With the ultra low cost of the wrap I've nothing to lose and can just peel it off if it looks naff. The whisker itself is so small it could be brush painted easily and I'm confident you'd have to get pretty damn close to see any imperfections.

Had to look up "naff"...found some different meanings, but I get the idea it's not good!

If the wrapping works out, please share technique tips! Maybe some photos along the way? Thanks!
