I hate that i couldn't get the manual+AWD combo, which makes me miss my E90 every single day.

Turn radius not that great.

Fuel consumption, higher than my E90 which again makes no sense.

Front suspension noisy in very cold climates here.

Ok, 1st oil change done today...

Really having a hard time understanding the No Dipstick thing... Simply counter intuitive!!! Could've added the electronic monitoring "WITH" the Dipstick still there. Best of both worlds!

Buried Filter location... Nice!?!? Think those fancy engineers could've angled the housing a little towards the opening.

32mm socket to remove filter cap!... Really!?!?

Anyways...

1st Oil Change, just under 1k miles, Moly Leichtlauf High Tech Engine Oil 5w40, Mann Filter.

Engine sounds smoother, was surprised at how dirty the oil was already. Is a nicely thicker oil. Sending it to Blackstone, just for the hell of it, benchmark at least.

All my vehicles get fresh oil at 5k, 7k miles if I can't get to it. Synthetic all the way. Used Moly as a treat for the new engine, will continue using it for now. Next change in another 2k, then 5k . So, before BMW's recommended OCI, I'll have done 3

So... My angst is the oil change, and then not being able to confirm the oil level. Interestingly, I drained oil, refilled... And the drained was .5-1qt shy... Filter take up? Don't like dummy lights, and don't like the set up for checking oil level. I didn't check before to see if level was low. I'll keep that in mind going forward.

What about the transmission and the differential – what are your plans for those? IIRC, they have lifetime fluid fills.

Things that have been bugging me the most lately - 1) no sync for dual zone climate control, and 2) no volume normalization between SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth Audio.

The trunk does not completely open and lift up when you push the button or the handle. It’s super annoying when I’m carrying a lot of stuff to the car. Anyone got a fix for this?

There is a fairly old thread that details the process to set the spring tension higher - I think you can set it to lift up, but mostly they come like yours, just unlocking and sitting pat, or lifting a little.

Just got our 2019 M240i on Saturday. A few things that bug me so far..

1. The double pull on the door handle (May Bimmercode that out)
2. The double off to turn the car off (May Bimmercode that out)
3. NO REMOTE START!!!! - I understand all the arguments, but this by far is the biggest frustration for us. It's my Wife's car.. it sits outside (sorry, not getting the Maserati spot in the garage.. ) and remote starting to warm up/defrost the thing would be ideal.
4. Not being able to adjust the seat-belt position on the pillar

It's a really fun car, so looking forward to tweaking it a bit.

I have a 2016 228i and I love almost everything about it. Thanks to BimmerCode I've removed many of my gripes (double door pull, windows stop working when the door is opened, etc.), however, there are a few issues I just can't seem to get past.

(1) The center console was not designed with any good place to put a phone without using a cup holder. I wanted to keep the OEM look of everything so I tried a phone mount from Rennline (this one: https://www.rennline.com/images/PM01.19-4.jpg) that mounts the phone next to the stereo and looks very stock, but sadly I learned the hard way that it was only meant for the F30 model and not mine. It wasn't cheap (about $50 with shipping), but I've since returned it and still have no good place to put my phone.

(2) Spotify is an absolute failure at best. It works when it wants to, various buttons randomly aren't clickable, and I have to unplug/re-plug my phone quite often when the connection stops working. Apparently this is a very common issue among BMW/Spotify users who do not have Apple CarPlay for which neither BMW or Spotify has plans to address given the addition of CarPlay in newer models.

(3) My car came with a giant, beautiful screen - the bigger of the two - atop the dash, but BMW failed to equip the car with a backup camera. A ridiculous oversight when you consider the manufacturer's cost of the camera and module is less than $100, but adding camera functionality post purchase, as a consumer, will cost you upwards of $300-$400.

*The only benefit of actually spending money to get the camera is that you can add an aftermarket Apple CarPlay module with a backup camera input and kill two birds with one stone.

(4) Lastly, the Connected Drive phone app is very limited. I see no reason to not offer further capabilities such as windows/sunroof control, remote start, etc. And given that you can "ventilate" the car from the app it stands to reason that remote heated seats would be a welcome and simple addition. It's also painfully slow to communicate with the car when sending a lock or unlock signal. Really the only thing the Connected App is good for is showing off to your friends.

Despite my complaints, I love this car. It's my first BMW and getting behind the wheel always puts a smile on my face.

Me too! Just got it last month, with only 17k miles on it. I guess it was a lease that just... didn't get driven for whatever reason.

I put a lot of thought into this and finally went with a suction cup mount up at the top of the windshield, right next to the rear-view mirror. It's not legal everywhere, but it is here and I like it better for Navigation and so forth rather than having to look down at the center console. The one I got is a wireless charger too, so i don't have to plug the phone in to charge it. The wire just runs into the mount and I ran that through the headliner and door trim so it's basically invisible.

Someone else posted this unit the other day which I also thought looked pretty slick, although it DOES block some of the stereo controls and doesn't look QUITE as OEM as the side-mount you had purchased.

One is a gooseneck stand that charges the phone wirelessly when it sits.
Since the gooseneck is too tall, I got a second cupholder mount that holds the phone right at the cupholder height so the phone sits just below the AC knob and doesn't block anything.
Was maybe $21 or so for the two.

They don't have dipsticks either.
I do know they are definitely NOT lifetime. Unless you view it this way - it the transmission fails because these fluids were never changed, then, that's the end of life of the transmission - so that's lifetime.

Could you please link to the instructions for that? Which menu is that in?
I just got Bimmercode and would like to do it as well.

Yeah, I'm with you. I think it's BMW that wants us to believe they're lifetime fills. The SA and I were laughing about it last time I was in for one of my "free" maintenance visits.

The car's at 9K, and while there I had the transmission fluid changed. I'll have it changed at 30K intervals from now on. My differential is aftermarket and will have its fluid changed at 12K intervals.

Hahaha, yes

Already ordered and received a little shorty 32mm socket so there's a little more room loosening the filter housing/cap

There really is no such thing. And for those owners who plan to keep their cars, following BMW recommended fluid maintenance is not such a good idea for longevity

I'll allow BMW to do all scheduled maintenance, and I'll do my own interim. As for the trans, diff's, etc., I'll probably follow the suggestions from BMWCCA. Transmission around 50k miles, diff's around 30-40k miles, coolant 50k, etc.

Edit: add maintenance info.

Google search "Alternative BMW Maintenance Schedule"
or
"Enhanced Maintenance Schedule by Mike Miller"

Only had my 218d a month or so but.....

The cockpit layout is a pain. I can't see through the steering wheel to see all the instrument cluster. I either lose the dials at the top or the information window at the bottom.

I can't see the buttons to switch on the spot lights or fog lights from my driving position.

Obviously the fact that nearly everything is an optional extra is slightly frustrating. I feel like as a 2 series owner we are left feeling like the poorer relations to our 3 series brothers.

Other thank that I'm very happy with my purchase. The remap has made a world of difference, extra 40hp and 50nm of torque.
Love the car and the colour and with a view cosmetic tweaks I can see this being a long love affair.
