Tint

It's illegal here in Newfoundland to tint the front windows whatsoever. I'm wondering if it's worth getting the rear windows done, looking for feedback from anyone that has just had their rears done, especially if they have silver wondering if it would look too awkward.

Thanks

Most of the new cars here in Ohio have the rear windows tinted darker than the front. So no, it wouldn't look awkward at all, at least not around these parts.

I was born and raised in Hawaii where full tint is allowed and most cars are tinted. When I lived in SoCal, I always thought it looked weird to have just the rear tinted so I never did mine. I personally wouldn't tint my car if I lived in a place that didn't allow full tint.

Leaving the front passenger/driver windows untinted looks kinda dorky if all the rest are tinted. I believe the tint laws here in Ontario mirror those in your Province. I'd check with your BMW dealer to see what they do. Mine put 50% tint all the front/rear sides and rear windshield and told me they never had a problem. 50% looks nice, does the job against getting to much sun heat and is stealthy enough not to attract the po-po.

The police are really bad for pulling you in for tint here although 50% all around probably wouldn't be too obvious. When I was buying my car the only thing the dealer told me was they didn't recommend tint at all.

I think we can have some tint on the front.
Mine was tinted at the dealer in St. John's.

A new law in NY State makes tinting illegal. They use some sort of gizmo at inspection, which is annual, and will fail the car if it is tinted. I had to have my tint removed, which cost more than installing it in the first place.
Bummer!

Your almost right. 30% is allowed. https://dmv.ny.gov/registration/tinted-windows

Effective January 1st 2017, examination of tinted or shaded windows will be required during motor vehicle inspections. A video about this change is available on YouTube.

Section 375 (12-a) of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law does not allow a windshield or front side windows that are dark.

The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light.
Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window.

This law also applies to the rear window unless the vehicle has outside rear-view mirrors on both sides.
The mirrors must give the driver a full and clear view behind the vehicle.

Rear side windows must also allow at least seventy percent of light from the outside to pass through the window if the vehicle is classified as a
station wagon
sedan
hardtop
coupe
hatchback
convertible

The dealers will tint but unfortunately it's not legal if you get pulled in.

I wouldn't tint just the back. I hate having that uneven look.

Side note I am jelly you guys don't need to run a front plate

Oh wow. Weird. I'm gonna take the risk. Seen lots of cops but no problems yet.

As bad as it sounds, I find the less luxurious cars: cobalts, civics, wrx's are more likely to be pulled in for tint.
