My 2021 m240ix has a little less than 9,000 miles on it. I drive with the top down most days, but it does get put up a few times a week.

Today I noticed that the rubber around the windows (bad description, see picture) is showing some creasing and wear. Is this normal? It's on both sides in about the same spot, but the left side is more severe.

I will be going to the dealer for my 10k mile oil change (don't worry, I did one at 5k) soon and wanted to know your thoughts before I bring it up.

Just checked mine and that doesn't look right. I have 11k mi on my 2020. Probably don't use my top as much as you but it looks like the top is hitting something.

Thanks. Doesn't look right to me either.

Garage List
BMW does recommend that you always keep the top up when storing the car, even if it's garaged. This is to keep the fabric under tension. That said, what you show in the photos' is not normal, I'd say. Mine is at 36,000 miles and shows nothing like what's in the photos. Indeed, I'd say that your top looks like it's got more creases and bumps than mine.

It's up most of the time when I'm not driving it. Occasionally, over night I'll leave the top down, but it most often up. I'll definitely point it out to the dealer in a few weeks. I'm also getting some weird rattle noise from the rear when I turn it on when it's cold. It's very short lived, but doesn't sound right.

Brought it to the dealer today for 10k oil change. They deemed it "something to keep an eye on."

As a follow-up, it has gotten it tad worse, but more of a blemish . I had the car in for a suspected coolant issue (which they can't duplicate/figure out) and asked the dealer for an opinion. Apparently, when the top is down, the back cover is touching those spots and causing the wear. The dealer sent pictures to BMW, and they said it was normal. Seemingly the technicians didn't agree and pressed the issue. From some magical place, someone from BMW is visiting the dealer tomorrow to see it in person… let's see what they say. I've been without the car for over seven days now…

So the engineer said the wear was "normal" like "the way jeans wear over time…"

doesn't sound right, I'm a total top down sl*t, i drop my top every chance I get done 7k no sign of wear. my 1 series on 22k, to 150k, had some very slight material crimps shall we say but NOTHING on that side

sounds like it's rubbing somewhere

I'd bet you only fix is a new roof or major component and there not going to swap a whole roof or top just for that
