…You're so right, although…..I'm working about 70 hours of overtime a month (…max is 120 hours) and it's such a drain. I don't know how some of my partners max out every month. Some take maybe 7-8 days off a month max. That's crazy.

Honestly, I don't know how you guys do it. Mentally I would be drained from all the things that you have to deal with on a daily basis. You seem to handle it pretty well, or at least you don't show on here

It is draining and I have my days where I don't want to interact with anybody about anything. I isolate myself and just zone out. That said, I mostly handle it well because I draw a line between my professional life and my personal life; placing more emphasis and priority on my peace of mind and personal time/quality of life. I will not work on any of my scheduled 12 days off per month, so whatever mandatory O.T. I work is done during my 4-day work weeks. I had to stop chasing the money because it was impacting my mental health. I didn't want to turn into one of those people who lives to work. Venting in the law enforcement thread is an outlet as well.

Good for you. As long as you're doing the best that you can when you're at work, that's all that matters. And you sound like you are, and you like your job, so it makes it easier to do it.
Money is good, but it's not everything in life, it's nice to have it, but there's more to life than just making money. You figure that out already and if you didn't slow down you would be burned out before your time.

Just about 30 seconds more tomorrow. By mid-January, the increase jumps to about two minutes a day and by the 20th of February, daylight speeds up to three minutes per day!

As long time academia folks, Wifey and I look at it in terms of semesters. Spring classes start Jan 9. Trudge through Jan and Feb. First milestone is Spring Break. Then finals week, then summer break. The Spring semester always seems to fly by.
