Tire rack recommended 17” winter package?

Hi guys,

I know very little about tires and winter set up causes I’ve always driven a winter beater (Jeep) but my Jeep is no more. I have a stock 2017 M240i xdrive and am looking to put on the Michelin X-Ice XI3s. Tire rack gives me a suggested tire wheel package of X-Ice 225/45r17 with MSW Type 22 17x7.5 rims.

Obviously there’s guaranteed fitment with Tire Rack but I just wanna be sure: will there be any rubbing with M performance brakes? Any other concerns I should be aware of?

I greatly appreciate any help on this.

Offset?

You also want to check the Offset of the rims.

Ideally for a 7.5" width, you would be near the stock offset of 45. In the range of 40-45 is good.

I went with a Tire Rack suggested package also, with MSW 55. They fit, with no rubbing, but the offset on these is 32, and they 'poke' a lot more than I would like. The tires barely clear, and the offset is far enough from stock that I occasionally get some odd tracking/tramlining from them. If I had thought it through better I would not have bought these.

You also want to make sure the wheels do NOT need a centering ring or different lug bolts. There are enough wheels that fit BMW with stock bore and bolts that it's not worth the hassle of dealing with wheels that need extra parts to fit. Especially with winters. Ask Tire Rack about this before ordering.

The stock Center Bore for F22 wheels is 72.56mm, often listed as 72.6mm.

I have Conti WinterContact SI tyres on TRM C4 and have had no problems, never got stuck. Also no damage apparent from last years winter through WNY.

17x8 et40 and fit with no modifications. Conti's because they are highly rated and they had good discounts going on.

I'm looking to get the TRM C4's for my winter setup. How do you like them and how do they stand against potholes? I live in NJ/NY.

Just bought the tire/wheel package with Michelin xIce 225/45R17 and the TRM C4 17x8 (40 offset). According to tire rack should reuse OEM hardware. Will post results once they’re on. Appreciate the help guys!

Would a wheel that’s 17x8 and 34 offset fit? The fact that your 17x8/32 offset wheels fit, but poked out a little, makes me think a 17x8/34 offset should fit and poke out a little less?

No issues at all with the potholes here in Buffalo, they seem to be sturdy for the price. They are fairly light too which also makes it easier carrying them up and down from the basement hah.

I ran another style of TRM wheels on my old E30 (albeit 15x8") for several years without an issue.
