M240i winter setup fitment questions
Looking to pick up some non-BMW rims, or BMW non 2-series rims, to get a winter wheelset. Would these all fit over the M240i brakes? These are all local to me or the seller can ship:
Sport Edition, unknown model, (18x8, ET 32) BMW style 158 (17x8, ET34) BMW style 200 (17x8, ET46) BMW style 393 (17x7.5, ET37) BBS SR (17x7.5, ET35) I think with some info on the above i should be able to get a better idea of what would fit based on width and offset. Thanks! |

I have been driving a 135 and more recently a 235 for the last 10 years in Maine winters, which are probably similar to yours. The 135 was rear wheel drive, and needed a maximum snow traction setup. I went with Sport Edition 17 x 7.5" wheels with 40mm offset. I put on 205/50 17 Michelin XIce3 tires to get the narrowest width for better penetration into snow and slush. The 50 series sidewall also provided a little more cushion to absorb ice chunks and frost heaves. Certainly not a track setup, but road handling was still quite good. Now I have xdrive with the 235 so starting traction is not such a big issue, but you still need to maintain cornering and stopping traction. Driving on snow and ice is a totally different beast.
