Hey guys. I'm exploring opportunities for us here.

I've been talking to some companies about making a reasonable widebody kit for the 2014+ 228i/M235i series and M2 (and may also fit 230i/M240i).

Nothing crazy, just wide enough for a 10" front and 11" rear.

I want to know how many of you would be interested, in what kind of price range, and what YOU would like to see on a widebody kit.

This will be fully funded out of my pocket (Once again) but I love being one of the few to explore the opportunities for us.

I would definitely be interested in this! This will make the m235i much more aggressive looking and allow us to fit concave wheels. I am with you on the wide body kit not being too wide. What prices were the companies quoting you? I think this is the number one thing that is missing from the 2 series models below the M2, a wider body.

So I'm thinking of a modified version of the M235iR

I need more input from everyone here.

All aero will be functional as well

One piece wide front bumper? Three piece?

One piece performance side skirts instead of addons?

One piece wide rear bumper? Three piece?

I think having the mold made as one single wide piece will make it less expensive for install. The only thing that would need to be molded would be the rear quarter panels.

The goal is to be as easy as possible for consumers to install.

I WANT to keep this kit under 8k if possible for the consumers.

Obviously, it's going to be more expensive for myself since I'm paying for the original design and mold making.

For any question regarding how many pieces, I strongly suggest sticking to one piece - front and rear bumpers. This will reduce the number of potential failure points.

You can get manhart replica kits for 1000.00 off ebay and aliexpress.

They are made out of FRP, so its similar to OEM plastics.

As long as they don't like like the current widebody offerings that look like unfinished plastered-on crap, I think you'll be fine. I've always thought the M235iRs looked terrible, too. Then again, I'm generally not into the whole widebody fad that we still seem to be on, so that could also be why.

Just curious, but do you have any rough sketches or designs you can share?

no, it's not similar to OEM plastics.

I personally know someone who has this kit, and he was only able to install it because of his knowledge and persistence in molding. He's put in a TON of work but his finished piece looks great. that kit is NOT a bolt on and go kit like I'm planning for this.

PD2XX, PSM, and Manhart original kits are 10k+

You're looking at 2k for the rep kit, and the amount of bodywork a shop will charge you for install will surpass an $8,000 total.

I think you missed the point.

The point is to have a NEAR full bolt-on molded widebody instead of adding panels, rivets, and seals.

The goal is that the only thing that would need to be molded would be a rear quarter panel.

Not that I am interested personally but to me it would be a hard balance between the overall cost and the finished look. Obviously a one piece front and rear bumper to suit the widebody would be the best looking but that does add a substantial amount to the overall cost of the pieces compared to adding small sections to the stock items. The M235iR kit integrates quite cleanly with the stock front bumper.

Could the wide body use the M2 front and rears? Or at least the rear because I prefer the M235i front over the M2.

realistically I can use any bumper. M2/3/4 or I can restyle it for more functional aero.

So I'd need more opinions about what you guys would like to see.

Right now I'm looking at a flush (molded) M235iR - style kit with upgraded aero.

Right direction - just slightly pokes out too much. Just a little more subtle and we have a winning look.

Yes I agree. I'm not taking that splitter into consideration. I'd be making that front end flush with the nose (center flat structure) of the front bumper.

I'll probably end up doing a side vent on the rear quarter panel Creating a venturi effect on each side to increase horizontal stability but I'm not sure if that'll be part of the kit or not.

Yes that looks great, the derpy "smile" on the m package bumper is awful, the inverted "mouth" look on the real ms is way better

Sadly most m4 bumpers for f30s look terrible so Im not holding out hope

Okay so I'm thinking I'll end up styling the front bumper like that but with proper proportions.

I'll end up essentially modifying the M235iR side kit into a flush kit with molded side skirts.

What would you guys want to see for the rear?

Also I'm still looking at this being under 8k. depending on how easy I go on the rear this could be well under.
