No kidding!
I have recently been driving back and forth from Hartford to Philadelphia frequently and my overall average creeped up to 26.2 mpg. Figure about 28-29 on the highway averaging 75-95 MPH. Since my previous DD was the 550i, which was slightly less fuel efficient (LOL), this is significant improvement!

Like most any car, these cars are HIGHLY dependent on if you're doing more city driving, more highway driving, lots of cold starts and short trips. I'm closing in on 3 years and 30K miles of ownership with the M235 6MT. It still gets the following:
1) In the warm months and with 50/50 highway/city driving, it sees 22-23mpg. 2) In the cold months and with winter gas and 50/50 highway/city driving, it sees 20-21mpg. 3) In 100% highway driving and at 70-78mph, it sees 27 to 30 mpg depending on temp, wind, and topography. I am not light with the throttle around town, but I don't drive like an ass either. I get up to speed quickly (actually better for mpg) and don't lug the motor in rpms below 2,000. I drive in Sport+ almost exclusively though I've seen absolutely no difference in MPG driving in other modes.

Have not been driving the Garage Queen much this year, I am still under 2000 miles after 1+ years of ownership. I have a Stage 1 tune since 750 miles and to date I am still getting an average of 22.5 MPG with primarily local driving.
One of the reasons why I'm not driving the BMW much is because my spouse loves muscle cars and we picked up a "cream-puff" 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT 392, fully loaded with manual trans and under 3K miles! No this car will never handle like the M240i, but for pure driving fun factor, rowing through the gears with that beast 6.4L V8 Hemi sound in the SRT gets the nod every time.

Mines up to 24.1 mpg after 4 months of ownership. This is without any concerted effort to use a certain mode or drive a certain way. It's a mix of sport and comfort I'm most comfortable with. Still 80/20 city/highway. For a n55, I'm pretty contented with my consumption.

I get 19 mpg pretty much every tank. I do sport+/S around city streets and once I get to cruise speed on highway I go comfort/D. (merely so it goes to 8th gear) I drive hard. Like it's meant to be driven. 93 octane BP fuel

2020 M240i Convertible with 6-speed MT.
Still in the break-in period but usually about 20 mpg based on miles and gallons recorded at fill-ups. I do notice that dynamically (by the display), I get several mpg better than my wife does but I upshift and coast more than she does. It’s her car so she’s entitled to have lots of fun driving it. High 20s on longer highway runs. |

I average 28 mpg in my stock 230i. Best tank was 40 mpg, and over a nearly 3700 mile trip in August I averaged 37.

Hi,
I average 28 mpg. Lowest was 33 mpg during an "economic run" highest 15 mpg on mountain roads. Always in sport and paddle shifting My car is a Vert M240i with a stage 1 flexfuel éthanol/unleaded remap. All values are with éthanol. I guess that it could be possible to obtain higher mpg in using 98 unleaded... Udayan Last edited by Udayan; 12-26-2019 at 02:01 AM.. |
