///M is for motorsport, not ///m'exclusive, so anybody rocking a 3-foot tailfin has 'earned' it in my book - some of those have more right to an ///M badge than the X5M drivers, IMHO. The non-BMW ones are indeed a bit amusing, but what I find most amusing are the people who seem genuinely upset by it all. Face it, nobody but us has a clue what that M means.

Which one is the asshat who's more likely to get his clocked cleaned for being such a dick? Hint: it's not the BMW driver with excess M badges.

What this says to me is that people who take a grotesque dislike to M badges are potentially even bigger douchebags than the people fitting too many M badges in the first place. That's illuminating.

It is Likely Everywhere...

Personally, I do not like the "boy racer" look. This is likely due to the fact that when I was young (pre-driving age), I saw American Muscle cars degenerate in the 70's to flashy "over dressed" cars that had anemic powerplants. There are dozens of examples with bulging bodywork and decals that could barely get out of their own way.

This was always a turn-off and cemented my more modest and understated approach to having a car that delivered on performance without looking like it was a performance car. My E28 M5 is an excellent example of this practice. Knowing you can blow the doors off of most cars on the road with raw power and superior handling / vehicle dynamics is just about as satisfying as being able to...

This said, they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I saw two cars with "M" badges plastered all over them yesterday at the local convenience store / petrol station. I expect that this is prevalent on both coasts. Both 3-Series sedans (328 and 335). Displaying behavior prompting the person to be compared to the male anatomy or feminine hygiene products may make the person a nimrod but you will always have a few of these to deal with.

To each his own...

Maybe these owners just have a sense of humor and aren't really trying to fake it?

However, for every fake M badge, it does add about 5hp.

I have a feeling some people definitely think ive tacked on an m badge to the back of my m235i. Makes me want to do a badge delete...

I thought about doing the badge delete, and then I looked at how many M-badges BMW slapped on this thing and realized it was hopeless!

This nice M328i parks near me. Haven't actually talked to the driver yet, but she's a plain middle aged woman. I kind of think a teenage son might be responsible and she hasn't even noticed. <grin>

I wouldn't even mind so much if the M wasn't so obviously mismatched to the rest of the 328i.

Nothing new in the UK, m badges plastered over all types of BMW now 118d 520 etc. Best one I saw a chap in work put m3 badges on a 2005 320d. Its quite tiresome actually but just smile and feel sorry for the people who really think they have better lives by putting m badges and stickers on their cars.

Is it tiresome for you? Yes it must be hard work, all that snobbery.

That video made me laugh so hard. I don’t know why, but I get so much amusement out of fake cars getting called out.

What I find funny is that non-enthusiasts don't know/care what an M badge signifies, while enthusiasts know the M badge on a normal BMW signifies that the owner is a poseur at best. A guy who lives up the street from my BIL has a dead stock 1993 325i which has an M3 emblem on the trunk. I keep hoping I'll run into him so I can tell him,
"Gosh, neat car! Except for the wheels, the front airdam, the side molding, the side skirts, the mirrors, the rear valence, the seats, steering wheel and the exhaust, it looks just like a real M3."
