Did you happen to do a front and a rear weighing, too?

I have the corner weights for my M240i; this includes the 170-pound driver and ½-tank of fuel, plus a bunch of stuff including that seen in my signature. The total is very similar to that of the OP.

I really wanted the low weight offered by the BRZ or the Miata, but in the end decided that another BMW was the best all-around fit given how I would use it. I do wish this car was lighter, but those days are gone.

Size-wise, the BRZ and FRS would be a more comparable vehicle at 167" vs the F22's 175" while the Ford comes in a 188". The BRZ average curb weight clocks in around 2800lbs. Of course FWD vs RWD so it's not apples to apples, but it does weigh much lighter. And of course the rear seats in the BRZ/FRS are hardly useable. Last edited by hwntime; 12-11-2018 at 06:34 PM.. |

It is also very obvious how those weight savings were achieved. The car has virtually no creature comforts, all the materiels (except the seat) are thin and cheap and rattley, there is zero sound isolation, and the car is just tiring to drive after a couple hours. In contrast, my M235 is a very comfortable all day cruiser, with a much more powerful engine. If that takes 600 pounds more, well, it's worth it to me. (And as others have pointed out, the FRS/BRZ is RWD. Even comes with a stock LSD, which convinced me to install the LSD on my 2.) |

They really are different animals. The FRS is very much more "raw". Ride, noise, features are much less refined. Much easier to work on and no worries about screwing the pooch taking it apart. Ride is rough. But it is so damn light. It just handles so much better. Track days are just a blast. The BMW is sooo heavy feeling compared after driving the FRS for 5 years. The 2 just feels sluggish compared. No getting over weight. But the power when I want it, is so much more intoxicating with the BMW. It handles great. FRS is next level. The practicality is not that much different in my opinion. I haven't found too much I can fit in the BMW that I can't fit in the FRS. Seats down or up. Golf clubs no issues. Really, I think the FRS is really good for packing in stuff. I've had gear, chairs, tarps, chests, fill it up. People in the back? No. But honestly, I never ask adults to get into the M235i back seat either. "Let's take your car." No kids nor know any. Commutes are nicer for sure in the BMW. Summary: I love them both! They fulfill what I need them to do! |

There's a range of everything available, and i find it quite interesting and depressing that people pick what they want, and the rest of it, they just slam and trash. |

I'm not suggesting the lack of safety equipment is necessarily a good idea, but running without it is done. What's more, at least here in the States, drivers are able to insure their cars for when they're driving them on race tracks. Re: the GT86/FRS/BRZ not being suitable for race tracks due to its being a street-going car - I've driven an unmodified FRS at Watkins Glen and would strongly disagree. That car, right off the showroom floor, is a worthy achievement on the part of Subaru and Toyota.

Gt86 is much extream in every way, just not on the power side. The bucket seats, the better steering feel, the lower center of gravity... I loved this car but at my age, I need the comfort that the f22 can give me, but I did moved to kw coilovers to sharpen the dynamic.
