Brake flush and fill
I changed my brake fluid and used a Motiv to pressurize system. I'm wondering about the electronic flush and fill process. Is the electronic flush and fill really necessary to do a complete flush or is the Motiv approach good enough?

A simple pressure bleed will not flush all fluid from the system. The ABS control block is complex, and some fluid will stay behind.
Does it matter? Well, it kind of depends. If you're flushing every 3 years, yeah, you should probably cycle the ABS to flush it. Although you could also argue the ABS block is least likely to get water contaminated, it's also the place you don't want it gumming anything up. If you're tracking and flushing every couple months, you can skip it. Maybe do the ABS cycling once a year or so. Or, if you put track fluid in for the summer, and put LV back in for the winter, cycle it when you put the LV fluid in. Be aware that running the ABS cycle does take a fair amount of fluid. At least a pint more. You are pressurized and pressing the pedal several times and ejecting fluid with with the bleeders open. (The main reason I don't do it with expensive track fluid.) |
