F22 M235i over 340i?
Hi all, currently deciding between a 340i (RWD) and M235i as a DD (commute ~10 miles one way). I plan on getting BM3 Stage 2 on either car.
(1) Will I need to replace the turbos on the M235i if I'm looking for 400bhp? I know upgraded FMIC/DP is required, but wasn't sure about turbos if I'm 'only' looking for 400bhp. (2) The main differences are the adaptive suspension on the M235i versus the 704 fixed MSport suspension on the 340i, plus the 340i has some additional tech goodies (BSM, side/top view cameras). I know it's an odd matchup as it's comparing the sedan against a coupe as well as B58 versus N55 tuning. Am curious which you think would be more fun as a daily driver--any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks! |

Answer your other question - You do not have to replace the turbo to get to 400 HP - Stage 2 tune.

Don't need the four doors, so I started eyeing the 2 series I don't mind the (lack of) bsm, but am a little hung up on the n55 vs b58 decision.

Either engine will meet your goal of 400bhp with just bolt ons. N55 sounds better, and is a bit more proven having been around for 10 years. B58 has a beefier engine block will make more power with stock turbos, overall longevity still unknown.

Oh wow wasn't aware FBO would get me there-- that's certainly nice to hear, thanks do you happen to have any thoughts on the chassis/everything-else-but-engine as well?

They're about 5-10k more, and at that range I'd start looking at other models

There's no contest, the F22 is the better car regardless of engine imo. That is, unless OP "NEEDS" a 4 door.

I am on my second M235 and have multiple F3X cars. Pretty simple decision IMO. Is your commute more highways or back roads? I never reach for my M235 keys if I am going to do 50+ miles on the highway, long distance cruising, etc. Around town, it's the weapon of choice.
That said I assume both would suit your needs from a practicality perspective or you wouldn't be considering them to begin with.

Honestly if you're looking to save a few bucks do the AFE drop in filter upgrade, although you can source a Dinan CAI pretty cheap in the classifieds these days. Any other intake is crap unless you get to Eventuri which is stupid $.
