Wagner vs Fabspeed? - Catted Down Pipe With Greatest Power Gains

Long time reader, first time poster.

In the market for a catted down pipe for my 2016 M235i. I’m looking for the greatest power output without a CEL. In terms of power output, which catted down pipe has the greatest horsepower/torque gains? Wagner or Fabspeed?

Both have great reviews on the forum and retailers. However, I’m leaning towards Wagner as it appears to be a better value for the money. Wondering if the Fabspeed w/ “HJS cat” is really worth the extra $600 in terms of power output difference, if any? Any reason to choose one down pipe over the other?

Wanted to point out that I am also going to be running the Bootmod3 Tune, Dinan Exhaust, Dinan Resonator Delete Mid Pipe, Dinan Intake, and Evolution Racewerks Charge Pipe alongside the Catted Down Pipe.

Power gains are the same.

Fabspeed's advantage is the No CEL guarantee.

Since you are using bootmod3, you do not need that guarantee (bm3 hides the CEL code).

Wagner would be the better option in your case.

Thanks, Mike! Appreciate your expertise. I’m leaning towards the Fabspeed Sport Cat so that when I take the car in for routine service appointments at the local BMW dealer, I can re-flash the car back to the stock tune and avoid a check engine light.

Check the Active Autowerke as well, it offers no CEL guarantee

Phil from Fabspeed here.
Glad you are looking at our downpipe. I would be glad to help out with any questions. The "HJS cat" Is very important for two reason first quality is unmatched in the market that is one of the ways we guarantee not CEL. Second is the size of the cat. Size doesn't always matter but when it comes to longevity of a catalytic convertor and size and composition are very important. We use the biggest cat to achieve the most free flowing exhaust with a no cel guarantee.

Fabspeed has my vote. Installed it on my car yesterday. Very straight forward install, no CEL, and sounds MEAN in comfort mode. No dyno yet so can’t tell about power gains, but so far it’s been worth it

Edit: I also have the MP exhaust, which also helps the sound

I’ll chime in with my vote for the Fabspeed. Granted I’m biased as my entire exhaust is Fabspeed. I will say it’s been installed for over a year and not one CEL ever.

Hi Phil, i am also a long time reader and a fabspeed sports cat decider, and a newbie to car modding.

I bought my m235i about 1.5 years back preowned and the owner was telling me that it has stage 1 tune, did not know what would that mean back then and he told me not to worry about it, just drive and have fun.

Since then, I had no issues except a battery replacement that was covered by the dealer.
2 months ago the warranty has expired, and since then i've been reading posts in this forum and decided to take a leap forward and enjoy more.

I came to know that i have MPE , but not sure what kind of tune that was performed on my car by the previous owner, and cant reach the him anymore to ask more about it neither the shop that did it.

Now i am leaning on catted DP to go along with the MPE, but my concern is, if the car had a tune before, will the DP installation have any problems with the current tune? do i have to tune again? and how can i tell what tune is on the car right now?

You won't have any issues as long as you are using a downpipe that guarantees not CEL. You do not have to tune the car again, but if you do you will be able to make even more power

if no trouble goes without a tune then i might be enough now with the current power and new sound with the catted DP.

but in future will surely retune as human rarely gets enough after experiencing the better.

is there any coupons or discounts on fabspeed sports catted? As i will be paying extra 15% (saudi) vat + intl shipping + customs fees

Thanks.

There are 4 HFC options that do not have a CEL - AA, CG Precision, Fabspeed and Akrapovic. You can't go wrong with any of them.

IF you don't need the CEL guarantee, then they are all basically the same.
I do not recommend any HFC in the price range ($800 and up) that DOES NOT offer the guarantee.

but the only HFC i see people with 0.1% CEL is Fabspeed, however, i will look through your recommendations and do the research again. Thanks

There's also the HJS Euro 6 catted DP with two cats totaling 300 cell. I've had it for 3+ years and not a single CEL. The DP looks OEM too. It's also cheaper than the Fabspeed catted DP too.
