Any confidence on an M Performance 3 or 4 series model (for those of us whom cannot justify a company M3 or aftermarket bits for a 335i)?
I have heard ideas of M Performance diesel for BMW 3er , 3er Touring , X3 and X4 using detuned version of the Tri-Turbo found in the current M Performance cars.
I really hope you are right on both counts... thanks for the quick response

Thanks for clarifying, that was damn confusing.

Real LSD on m235 - great news .
I'd welcome performance diesels too.
Hope flagship m2 shows up too.

So now there's m sport lines/packages, m performance models, m performance parts, and an m-sport performance package. If you look hard, you can actually find a real ///M car somewhere. Geez.

To be clear, there will be an M2 and an M235i? And if so will both or only one be offered with 4 doors in the US?

This is exactly how I view the M235i. It is the replacement for the 135is. Once this is understood, the reason for an M Performance Package, despite the "M" in the model name already, will make sense.

Eagerly hoping for a proper M2... perhaps MY2016. *shrug*

No one knows, for sure. All rumor, so far. All that is certain is a 2-door M235i will be unveiled in the upcoming months with SOP set for 11/2013.

For those that can't figure out what to do-

Lease a first run M235, but don't piss your money away on the upgrades.

Turn it in and step into an M2 coupe or GC.

That's the plan.

PS - 1M owners, unload it while you can at a ridiculous price, 'cause this ain't no collector car.

PPS - e90/92 owners. A low miles example of this car will fetch much greater than the current used car market will bear, years from now. E93 M3's? No one wants a convertible...

The M135i and other M Performance cars come with non-runflat Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires and bushings and suspension set up to match (that alone is enough to sell me on them, I just put PSS on my car and completely transformed the ride/handling for the better), they also have the sports steering and electronic dampers standard and I think there are a few other things I'm forgetting. The M Sport brakes are standard on the M135i, but the bigger motor cars always had upgraded brakes so I won't count that. M Performance cars are a much bigger upgrade over the standard cars than the is models ever were, even if there is no regular 135i (I'm comparing the 128i to the M135i).

The 135is (and my 335is) had exactly zero handling upgrades over the standard 135i/335i, all they had was a power kit and an exhaust and the 335is had the option of a DCT added.

I was referring to price. Not specs or capabilities of the two cars.

Basically have a 128i and 135is, in regards to pricing. Leaving a larger gap between the new 2-series models. But I don't expect pricing to go up too much.

Scott, does this mean the entire article incorrectly translated M135i as 1M? Is the M235i really supposed to be faster around the Nurburgring than the M135i, not the 1M? Or did the incorrect model only refer to the source of the 18" wheels?

Indeed. The new 3 has really moved out of the segment that "the 3er defined". The 2er better fill that hole quick, and well.
