Tuned M235i with an LSD will be a monster on the track!

M135i weight = 3168lbs (lets assume M235i weighs the same)
M235i weight = 3168lbs
M5 weight = 4114lbs

M235i = N55 tuned with ~$2K in modifications (tune, dp, ic, meth/e85, etc) = 400whp = 7.9lbs/whp

New M5 (stock) = 527whp = 7.8lbs/whp

Wow...All this sounds great. I just hope they don't make it a limited edition with only 100 production models that sell out in the first month.

Finally an LSD! Thank you BMW for listening. Let's hope its a real option and not just an expensive M Performance dealer add on. I can't wait until they are ready for delivery in U.S..

Wow, I was waiting for the 4 Series Coupe, but regardless that is nice, I think it is too big.
I was considering an 1M to buy but this is a game changer, the 1M owners are asking too much for their cars and is kinda small for me.
I do believe that if the dimensions will be similar with E46, the new 2 series will be THE ENTHUSIAST car.
And if the design is right and the car will be with a proper LSD, then, one will be mine as well.

Two questions:
1. Will they offer an INDIVIDUAL program for the 2 series?
2. Are there any plans for a hot hatch?
The hot hatch is the M135i

I am a bit confused, so there is going to be a "M Performance option" in a M235i? aren't you already paying for the M Brand name?

anyway, the M235i is supposed to have 320 hp standard, so what is the performance kit going to make it? 335hp? 340hp? plus the LSD.

if that is true, then there really is no room for a M2, the M3/M4 will only have 415 HP, BMW isn't going to want a lighter weight M2 with say 375-380 hp to perform better than the higher priced M3/M4. But I wouldn't rule it out in the future, as others have said maybe it will be a 2-3 year offering at the end of the new cars life cycle, very limited production type thing... Which also probably means no M2 GC which I was looking forward to.

Guys,

What do you think of this price sheet?

This is my own personal guess...

Maybe when this car is available 1Ms will be in a decent price range.
Man I hope you're right! Mid 40's is perfect, actually I think they should start the MSRP 42,000.

I couldn't agree more Jason. I was seriously contemplating jumping over to a new cayman in a couple of years but the hopes of an M2 is keeping me at bay.

We definitely need an M2!! Any clue as to what the power levels will be? 350hp? 360?

360hp in a 3100lb car, perfect car on paper for me.

The full article said no M2.
But then the article from FN said they want to do an M2.

I expect it'll be like every other series; M and M Performance models not released near each-other time-wise to prevent cannibalising sales. In the same way no M performance F30 series whilst all the hype about the impending M3/4 proper.

Also what is this about M Sports Performance package? I thought this already was the M Performance Model.

So am I to believe that with the LSD this will be the M235i M Performance M Sport Performance model? Urgh head spinning. Too many M's and not real ones at that.

I'm thinking since it's a M235i, it would just be an option when ordering, while the 228i won't have that option. Would make sense that way at least.

The handling of the 1M was too snappy, but the 2 Series has a longer wheelbase and the proportions are better. However, we did take the 18-inch wheels and special Michelin tyres from the 1M for the M235i, as they offer better performance than the 19-inch versions."[/I]

I must be reading this wrong because it seems to say that the 1M had an 18" wheel option which it does not. The 1M was only offered with the ZCP M3 package which has the 19" Y-Spokes.

Great news on the LSD. I hope they make it standard not optional.

Personally, I couldn't care less about the ring time. Make the car fun and joyful like the 1M and people will line up to buy it.

That is indeed some good news. They should make that happen across the board. The M-sport pkg should come standard with limited slip. The price of M-sport pkg should be reasonable.

It should be the M135i not 1M. in Germany it is referred to as the 1MPerformance model by some @ BMW. The US reporter mis-interpreted that we have the M135i which is not offered to the US.

I don't see the M235i be much more than the current 135is. Especially since there is no base 235i.

No there is room for a BMW M2, the recent arrivals of the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes CLA have not exactly set the automotive world on fire with their attributes, I drove a CLA and it was crap to drive, you might get style and a nice interior but this segment is becoming essentially what the 3er defined .
BMW may be late to the party but when they arrive they will not add extra entertainment but they intend to crash the party by bringing exactly what is expected in this segment. The 2er Gran Coupe will be RWD with optional xDrive so they know exactly what customer they are aiming for.

M2 will be the flagship and the pinnacle it will again be that entry point to the M Division. One thing is abundantly clear and that is the M235i with its optional M Performance accessories which add extra dimension to the sportier look of the M235i with swathes of CFRP and aero appendages. Will not be a poor relative.

You sound confident Scott.. Moreso than Dr N in the latest interview.

Any confidence on an M Performance 3 or 4 series model (for those of us whom cannot justify a company M3 or aftermarket bits for a 335i)?

I have heard ideas of M Performance diesel for BMW 3er , 3er Touring , X3 and X4 using detuned version of the Tri-Turbo found in the current M Performance cars.
