the current 135is starts at $44K, considering the new name and the same powertrain with the 135is, the M235i will be nearly as expensive and definitely more expensive than the current 135i which starts at a friendly $40K.

anyways after seeing the photos i'm pretty sure this is going to be my next car, the 4 series seems to pack less tech than this(no touch idrive?)and a lot more expensive.

This is the problem with forums. People post information with such certainty when in fact they have no clue, only speculation.

The change in model designation has no influence in price. Period.

Cars will elevate in price every year, which is typical of all brands, but more times than not, the price increase is due to additional equipment and features being added as standard for that model.

I'm a big fan of what the designers did on the front end - definitely agreed with the general consensus that the headlights connecting to the kidneys on the larger cars might have been a bit of a miss-step. I'm also very pleased with how the aerodynamic ducting is executed in the front - those are some BIG vents. I've got a feeling that this car is going to be one of the most aggressive looking parts of BMW's lineup because of how large the inlets are on the front bumper in proportion to the total frontal area - just imagine seeing it in your rearview mirror as it sneaks up on you on the freeway... Would love to see an unobstructed front-view of this thing.

I like! looks like 2series front head light are better designed than 4 series . Now I may consider a 2 instead of a 4

+1.

Price increase is not because of new model name. The 4-Series is will be priced higher than the 3-Series because that's how coupes are priced, not because it's a 4-Series.

Dammit, I told the wife I'd be buying a 4-door for the kids, but this may change that plan. I was waiting to see if they would screw it up like the F20 and I am pleased that they didn't.

Irony much?

Numbering will influence marketing. No question about that. So are you saying marketing won't influence pricing? That's hard to believe.

BMW obviously spends resources trying to come up with good product names. What is a good name? One that allows them to make more money than they would have if the name wasn't as good, enough to offset the money they spent in coming up with that name.

So after years and years of speculations and rumors, BMW finally went for the 4 series nomenclature. It's clear that it wasn't a rash decision, but a very carefully calculated one. So all that time and effort spent, they would expect the new name to improve their bottom line. This doesn't necessarily mean that the price would go up, but when you combine the increased number with the rhetoric about "exclusivity" that they have been spreading, and it's not hard to guess what they are trying to pull.

Looks world better than the F20 and F21, but it has a ton of real estate in the fenders above the wheel arches. Makes it look pudgy, though a bit less so than the E82 I suppose. Hopefully the M2 gets different (wider) sheet metal that will reduce this somewhat. Looking forward to the M2 Gran Coupe as well.

It's also interesting that only the 3-series, 4-series, and X5 are getting the headlights that run into the kidney grills. I guess keeping some design language unique to certain models keeps the entire lineup from looking too monotonous.

I like the sculpting line on the hood, current E82's hood is too plain. This car will be a good size as well not big as the 4.

Not loving it... appears at this stage to be a little dull, and flabby looking. It's not ugly, far from it, but I prefer the current 1-er coupe's looks, I'm sure I'll get used to it though!

Yeah... I'm not exactly "salivating" ( ) at the mouth, tbh.

Car looks bulky in all the wrong areas and the interior seems a bit uninspiring to me. I mean... it's not ugly... but it also isn't Angelina Jolie (in her prime, at least) either. I like how the pics look like they were taken by a top secret spy agent using a set of binocular-cameras though... I guess it's that big of a secret?

I'm so glad this doesn't look like every new BMW with the cow-pusher, blunt front end. I'm pleasantly surprised; I was fully expecting this thing to disappoint with handfuls of fugliness. I'll reserve complete judgement until I see the whole car, but thus far, I'm cautiously optimistic.

I almost don't care the M2 maybe gets a 4 cylinder because this 235 looks nice, though still a tad boring/fat imo.

Because of the smaller wheels and the amount of sheet metal above the fenders already stated in a post here.

M2 needs to have that particular (1)M stance. And the driving fun/performance too. Please BMW!

Cheers
Robin
