You're missing the purpose of the analysis. It's to tell you specifically how your motor is doing and how your oil is performing.

Yes. If it showed abnormally high wear of a metal associated with a specific component. It's called preventive maintenance.

I've been reading and learning from this thread. Thanks to all sides. But, the forum-writing award of the day goes to you for knowing and using "preventive" and not "preventative". This is "irregardless" of anyone else who "could care less"!

While analysis is generally a good thing I have to share a story. My house generator had only a few hours on it in 6 years (including the weekly health run). Sent a sample and the result came back 'good except for a tiny amount of glycol'. Fortunately I realized that the engine is air cooled. Could have been a huge wasted effort if liquid cooled.
