Life of Diff and Gearbox Seals
Hi all
I've got a 2015 228i. BMW advised me that both the gearbox seals and differential seals are weeping oil. I've just had my warranty company say they only cover mechanical parts and the seals are due not covered due to normal deterioration. What should be the life of these be? I don't think I've ever owned a car that has had these parts go in my life! |

my 2015 differential seals I was told were weeping after about 6.5 years and that was at about 40-thousand miles. But the dealer hasn't seen anything worse than a weep and had not advised any repairs.
My valve cover leak at the rear was initially describes as maybe a rear-main seal leak. I'm not sure about your 4-cylinder and it's propensity for valve cover seal leak. |

I changed my open diff for a LSD at a little under 10.000 km, first year after purchase. When I got the car in the air I found leaking seals as well. Changed all, lasted about a year, changed them again with OE seals and it been leek free for the last 3 years.
