Well, there are a number of factors at work here. Most people with winter tires store them indoors and they don't see lots of UV that can speed aging. So winter tires might live a bit longer than tires that see lots of sun and heat. But it is a good idea to be conscious of the age of your tires as well as the tread depth. And check date codes when you buy new tires, too.

As with race tires, an inexpensive means of determining the condition of a set of winter tires is the fingernail test. When you buy them, and every year after that, before mounting them on the car again, use your fingernails to ascertain how soft the rubber still is. It will become quite evident when they've begun to harden. At that point, they're no longer doing what you've paid for them to do.

I double-bag our winter tires and keep them in a temperature and humidity controlled space during the late spring to late fall months. I think that generally adds a single year to the life we get out of them.

With new winter tires, what you're paying for are tires with soft rubber. That softness is what enables them to grip cold and icy surfaces. As they begin to become progressively harder over time, they will not grip as well under the conditions in which you most need them to perform well. Expense aside, I would suggest changing winter tires out early when safety is a significant concern.

Also important to store your high performance summer tires in a heated indoor space as well as well, not in your -30 garage while you are using the winter ones.

Got my moneys worth at the wash. Clean pic not included, it's pitch black out now.

This is the dirtiest I've let it get, I swear!

I store my summers in my basement over the winter. They stay at a comfortable 60 - 62F all winter long.

I spent some time this past weekend organizing my car's bedroom (garage) and pretty much finished up the room makeover. It's looking pretty sweet.

On Tuesday my wife's suv got snowed on and then she pulled in the garage. After a couple hours the snow avalanched off and made a mess on the floor; the snow from the hood slid off and piled up against my cabinets. So not cool. Now that the garage is nicer the dirty cars stuff is going to bug the crap out of me....next up is the epoxy floor so it's easier to clean.

I bought it today and drove it from San Francisco to LA. Unfortunately, it was rainy for the first half of the trip so I didn't get to hit the limiter until about half way through.

Congratulations on your purchase!

Looks like you drove it back via Hwy 1; even in the rain, that's the way to go in a car like ours.

Slammed the drivers side door a bunch of times trying to get it to stay shut. Every time it just popped back open. Slight panic ensued as I wouldn't be able to drive to work in that state. I checked the passenger side and everything seemed to work as on the other side.

I thought it was a broken mechanism internally... but it turned out to be a small piece of ice lodged between the handle keeping it open. Just some Monday morning adrenaline.

I've had the car out a couple times in some cold and sloppy weather in the past week. On Saturday I was able to get to and from the car wash and back in the garage without getting too much winter debris on the car. Now that my car sits in a heated garage I'm a little more cautious with keeping it clean which stinks since I was already super OCD about it.

But the car felt great and put a smile on my face ripping through the gears. My kiddos were giggling as they hadn't ridden in the car for a while and loved the power.

Added a Remus Axle Back. Very happy with the sound of this setup (catted downpipe + axle back) and the larger tips were an added bonus.

Couple months into my ownership. Borderline criminal that BMW didn't provide an oil temp gauge in these things... Added a P3 vent gauge as a neat albeit expensive solution.

For those who don't want to go the hardware route, post #5 in this thread shows another means of displaying the oil temperature: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1498969.

I don't know if it works on every 2 Series model.

There's a forum member who made their own, https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1946834

He could probably sell a few if he decided to make more.

I was thinking of this, but couldn't justify the $400 or so dollar price point for a gauge ! no matter how many feature

PLUS, I'd much rather have it in the center vents

My 2020 M240 has a (digital) oil temp gauge as stock. I'd assume B46 models do as well?

It's one of the options you can cycle through with the button on the end of the cruise stalk. It also persists after a restart so you can leave it there all the time if you want.
