For oil I use the BMW owners manual (or updated bulletins for the viscosity). Your average low temps for the season is probably the key factor for selecting the viscosity. Also do you know that oils that meet BMW specifications will have that notation on the oil container or (maybe) at the oil companies online website OIL FINDER. As for brand and viscosity use the SERACH or wait for more responses. |

I concur with the recommendation to get the filter at the dealer. Alternatively you could buy the same filter from a shop. The filter is made by MANN. As far as oil, the factory likely recommends a 0w30 oil. You definitely want to use a fully synthetic oil. I'm running Ravenol VMP 5W30 in my M240i. But, it's expensive. I recommend you look for Mobil 1, Castrol and other reputable oil brands.

Mobil 1 is not a true synthetic... Just sayin
Again, there's literally so much information available on this subject, plus the multitude of threads on the subject, it doesn't require an answer! Please use the search function and then make up your own mind as to what's best (for you). One recommendation is using FCP Euro, lol, you can send back your old oil and get new, free... If you don't mind the hassle. Also, you can use Blackstone Labs to test the removed oil that will provide an idea if there's good or bad going on. Otherwise use the Alternate Maintenance Schedule, not BMW's (10k miles)... That's a joke! And of you're changing oil after a track event, or every 4-5k, it won't matter much what you use! Good Luck! |

There are labs in UK that will analyze your oil - Mike Brewer on TV show "Wheeler Dealer" had a sample tested this season. Sorry, I don't recall the lab used - perhaps this one: https://oilanalysislab.com/
I've been using Mahle or Mann oil filters in my BMWs for >40 years without a failure. Now you just need to wade through the oil threads to make yourself happy! Check the posts from "edycol" here - he has worked in the auto petroleum industry: https://www.bimmerfest.com/search/1932668/?q=edycol&t=post&c[child_nodes]=1&c[nodes][0]=153&o=relevance Good luck!

Not offended, lol... Just busting chops!
Oil is oil... Truthfully. Especially if you change it often. New oil before and after track too. Keep it fresh, don't allow time or use to break it down and you'll be fine. Change filter every oil change and you'll be fine. Do NOT use manufacturer intervals, and you'll be fine Good Luck! |

I dont like BMW's factory oil. I prefer LiquiMoly, its all i put in my cars. Some people who are more demanding will put Redline oil which seems to handle thermal load a bit better because its well suited to track use. But depending on how you drive it could be complete overkill.
For daily driving as long as you do you research and use 100% synthetic oil your ok. If you track the car however, have fun going down the Rabbit hole lolll |

Let me give you an analogy
If I wanna eat a burger, I'll go to 5 guy's If I wanna eat a steak, I'll go to Keg (or get a AAA Canadian strip) If I wanna eat a Lobster , I'll go to Red Lobster If I wanna get high, pure Colombian coke If I wanna mellow, some Mary Jane from De islands man ! Drink Anyone, 25yo Scotch, neat, no bloody water, no bloody rocks You pay for what you get, you go to the source, you get the legit product. Now all this talk of getting high has made me hungry |
